I never actually sign out from this site, I just go straight in from bookmarked my threads. The last couple of days every time in go into the site after closing down my browser I have to sign in. Anyone else having this?

As a security measure should the box 'remember my password' not be automatically set to yes?

I always have to after using cclean, but did not think I cleared cookies every time I closed down. Maybe something has changed.

Each time you break your internet connection, close your browser or shut down your pc you are logged out, so to say you never log out is not strictly correct. However the option is there for you to log in automatically, without re-entering your password, which gives you the impression that you have never logged out.

You password is held in a cookie with your PC browser so you should ensure you do not clear these out. Obviously you also need to tell your browser to remember your password for this site when prompted.

If you use CCleaner then make sure you whitelist the sites you use regularly to ensure their associated cookies are retained, otherwise they will be deleted each time you run a cleanup. To create your whitelist select Options, Cookies, then highlight the sites you wish to retain cookies for on the left and move them to the right using the arrow key.

Secondly you need to tick the box on GR to tell it you wish to log in automatically. GR sometimes force everyone to log back in following a software upgrade and there were some reported problems on the site last year too, but these seem to have been resolved.

lancashireAnn, your browser may cache your bookmark entry to My Threads, so that it takes you to the sign in page every time after one occasion where the site had signed you out.

There are four GR sites, most people use just one but you do have to sign into each one separately if you use them.

This can be a problem if you follow a link someone has given which is to one of the other sites. Then you may not notice you are on the other site until you try to post something or look at your tree when it requires you to sign in.

I don't know if this happens on all PCs, but if I have a GR window open and leave the PC for a long period so that it logs me out on the PC, then I also get logged out on GR and have to sign in again next time.

thank you all for your replies. I knew I could rely on the community to solve it for me.

You have all explained it clearly and I now seem to be sorted.

I have found no rhyme or reason why I have to sign in (I never sign out).

We had a power cut yesterday, lasted about six hours. I did NOT need to sign in to GR when I got back on the computer.

When I've been away on holiday, a weekend, a week, once for a month, computer turned off........ I didn't have to sign in.

I can use GR........ click off the site (NOT sign out)........ and two minutes later I may have to sign in again.

Makes no sense.

:-S :-S :-S :-S :-S

This is getting weirder & weirder.

My computer went to hospital this afternoon.

A few hours ago I used my husband's computer to have a look at GR. Then I SIGNED OUT!

I wanted another look.............. typed in the URL, and came straight in.

Repeat....... I signed OUT. I didn't have to sign IN. I do NOT have the "remember me" ticked.

GRemlins?? :-P

I'm signing out again, I wonder what will happen?
