Could someone with Ancestry have look at this record for me which is on the West Yorkshire, England, Marriages and Banns, 1813-1935.

West Yorkshire, England, Marriages and Banns, 1813-1935
about Ellen Tinley
Name: Ellen Tinley
Birth Year: abt 1847
Age: 19
Marriage or Bann Date: 2 Dec 1866
Parish: Barnsley, St George
Father's Name: Garin Tinley
Spouse's Name: Thomas Poppleton
Spouse's Father's Name: Thomas Poppleton

I'm sure this relates to one of my rellies, but as you can see the fathers states Garin Tinley. I have looked at the original image and to me it is a transcription error and should be Gervase/Jervase who is the father of Ellen Tinley.

Ellen was born in 1848 West Stockwith Nottinghamshire

Could someone please give me an opinion if I'm right or not, although it does state her father is deceased, but i have him on census after she married, puzzled

Your comments will be much appreciated

If it helps i can post census records before and after her marriage, and that of her father Gervase Tinley Born abt. 1823 Southwell Notts.

Looks like it could well be Gervase to me

I think the father's name is Jervise on the original.

Hi Jax, Margee and brummiejan.

Many thanks for your replies, you have confirmed what i thought, so I'm sure this is my Ellen, although i don't know why she said her father was dead, perhaps she didn't know one way or another, suppose it will remain a mystery.

Jan the 1861 census you posted is indeed what i have.

Many thanks to all of you for your contributions much appreciated.

Was she young? young girls have to ask permission of their parents. ''My father is dead'' kinda gets you round the problem, although they may have been estranged.

Hello Penny

You are probably right, i didnt think about that, she was 19 when she married, i know her mother had died before she married, so perhaps her father was not to be found.

Many thanks for a new slant on this, much appreciated.
