I told the OP not to be coy.

There's no need not to identify Ancestry........and in any case, missing out ONE letter is pointless, even a semi-literate individual would know which site it was

As I said on the other post:
Perhaps it should be mentioned that these images are only avaialble to Premium & Worldiwde members - not the basic essential members, like me.

There is a similar type of situation on this site.
I have the Platinum membership, but if I want to read the newspapers, etc. then I have to pay more. One could easily assume that "Platinum" meant the full Monty. But no. And if you do pay the full annual price of those other bits, the cost here is much closer to the Ancestry Wordwide cost.

A further thought:
As Manchester is in Lancashire, some (at least) of what has recently gone live on Ancestry should (or soon should) be put up on the Lancs OPC site. And the latter is free to view.

Everything they have is taken from other sites..........most notably FMP, which is owned by the same parent company

You are correct. But how many websites do you have full membership of? And do you think that you therefore have access to every piece of your own family jigsaw?

It would certainly not be a good idea to rely on the comment that “Manchester is up on Ancestry”. Not all the records are there, even though there are many.

The same situation applies to the Lancashire parish records, which have been available on Ancestry for some time. I tested yesterday with a common Lancastrian surname restricted to Blackburn. The LOPC produced the most results. Ancestry returned quite a few, but they all came from the records of just one Church; St John the Evangelist. Thus none from the main Church of St Mary-the-Virgin, nor from St Paul, St Peter or the various Chapels.

Most folk have to limit how much they want to pay to the commercial websites. I do a lot of research on my Lancashire lines. So for me it’s GR & Ancestry (paid) + LOPC & LDS (free) + visits to LDS centre to view the films + visits to the cemeteries.
