A Will, written in Heckingham, Lincolnshire in 1852 refers to pictures of

"the celebrated horses Oscar and (Lap?). "

Can any one suggest a site which might mention 'Famous Horses'? For all we know, they may only have been family owned rather than Nationally or Lincolnshire famous. :-S

heckington is what i found.. being interested in horses did a quick google.. got Oscar but born 1994 and another Oscar in 1894..

The celebrated high blooded English horse, Oscar, full sixteen hands high, imported by me in 1804 ... will be let to mares, the ensuing season, at my stables ... Sandy Point, at Six Guineas the season .

Yes, it should really be Heckington although the Will itself says Heckingham.

The Will of Ann Bradley Barnatt late of Heckington in the County of Lincoln Widow deceased who died 3 Jan 1863 at Heckington aforesaid was proved at Lincoln by the oath of Richard Christopher of Heckington aforesaid Draper and Grocer the sole Executor. Effects under £200.

The Will itself was written/signed on 22 Dec 1852

Not seeing anything about her horses but there are several mentions in relation to land sales.

Was she the widow of Thomas?

Her husband was a Thomas, probably baptised 9 Jan 1787, St Andrew, Heckington.

Thomas and Ann marrried 24 Apr 1810, St Andrews Heckington.

He must have died prior to the 1841 census as she was listed as a widow. She did not re-marry.

There must have been 'money' in the family at some point as some of the other items listed in the Will are Silver spoons, jugs and sugar bowls

Hi - I've been looking at the British Newspaper Library on this site, and found a couple of advertisments placed by Ann eg

Notice to DEBTORS and CREDITORS of the late THOMAS BARNATT deceased.

ALL persons who have any claim or demand upon THOMAS BARNATT, deceased, late of Heckington, in the county of Lincoln, farmer, are requested to transmit their accounts to ANN BARNATT, Executrix of the said Thomas Barnatt, in order that their accounts be arranged and a statement of his affairs may be laid before his creditors, and a distribution made for their benefit; all accounts not delivered in on or before the 24th day of JULY next will be excluded in the benefit of such distribution, And all debts due and owing unto the said deceased, are forthwith desired to be immediately discharged without further notice, unto the said Executrix.
Heckington, 22 June 1825
Stamford Mercury 22 July 1825

Can't at the moment see anything about land sales in Heckington, but more looking to be done. Also need to check if there was a Will on the NA site.

Lincoln which isnt a 100 miles away from Heckington had a racecourse from the 1770s till 1965 when it closed and all races were then run at Doncaster racecourse and still are.....maybe connected. and something is archived?

I only found it because I quickly googled Heckington - Barnatt. There are quite a few sites of interest and it seems as though there are still Barnatt families around. Cx :-)
