could anyone tell me if a marriage cert was needed for a death in 1933 as proof

No/ the informant would give the information as they knew it and sign to say it was to the best of their knowledge.

No is the simple answer.

You don't need to give a spouses name when you register a death of a married person - or give proof that they were actually married.

My husband and I registered my mother-in-law's death in 2002 giving her "married" name. We had no idea then that hubby's parent's were not actually married. They had been together since the middle of World War 2 and were a very staid, prim and proper couple but we later learned that he had been married in the 1920's and when the marriage broke up it was too difficult in those days to get a divorce so he just lived with his second "wife" as though they were married.

I spent years looking for their marriage record before a very elderly relative told us that they were never married.

this old aunt was never married to this man has took 7 yrs to find her she died 1933 after chid birth they lived in diferan t places as he was already married and changed part of his name but kept the one part of it so 3 children had one name and others had one he made up then in 1934 he gassed himself and the chidren have got certs but as yet cannot find where they are all buried in doncaster

Are you sure that they are buried in Doncaster?

Have a look at this web page (it gives contact details for the cemeteries department). Most cemeteries have their burials on computer these days so if you have the date of death they should be able to check to see if these people are buried in any of their cemeteries. They may or may not charge for this service/
