I have been looking for the birth/baptism of an Ann Deardon after she married one of my ancestors Richard Hartley. After looking closely at this marriage record I noticed that she had signed Ann DEERING and noticed that one of their daughters birth certificate had the mother also as Ann DEERING.

There is a possible baptism on IGI of an Ann Deering in 1800 (my records give date of birth as about 1801), but it gives no parents. But it lists one or two others all with same parents. I looked up these on the new Ancestry Parish Records and all it says is " Nothing More on Notes". The baptism is in Manchester Cathedral and on Ancestry the only ones with the Deering surname all have the same parents.

Just wondered what the chances are of Anns parents being the same too, or do you think there is another reason why no parents are listed for Ann. Is there any other way, or records where I could possibly find one or maybe both parents.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have thought of looking at the siblings marriages for Ann as a possible witness but cant find any Deering marriages, and I havent got any siblings for Richard Hartley.

Thanks for replies, yes that's them, I have their marriage record and have them in the census 1841 and 1851. The name comes from child's birth certificate! Sorry didn't reply sooner had to go work. The marriage is written as between Ann dear don and Richard Hartley, but she signed Ann Deering.

It certainly looks as if it's been written as Dearden but signed as Deering

As you say, no parents recorded on the image - someone didn't do their job properly!!

As you've probably found, this is the only Deering marriage in Manchester which fits with the other baptisms.

Detective, I think the Ellen Deering one is maybe a little bit late, the other one looks more probable, and as you say, there is only one Deering marriage so it does look likely that James and Mary could be the parents. Wonder if for some reason the parents didnt want their names on, seems unusual though. Do you think I would find some more information at the record office, if they had Bishops Transcripts. I am grateful for you taking the time to help me with this.

Have you found a marriage for a Deering to an Ellen after Ann's 1800 baptism?

Ellen Deering is described as a widow on her marriage in 1806, which is why she might possibly be Ann's parent.

You could ask the archives if they had another version of the baptismal records, but the fact that of the enscription " Nothing More on Notes" does suggest that it is a copy of something else. That in turn might not have anything written against it!

Detective, thanks again. As yet I have not found a marriage for a Deering to an Ellen before/after?? Ann`s 1800 baptism. Will look after work sometime.

I will enquire at Manchester Library when I eventually get there on one of my now and again visits.
