	Is there anyone who knows details about the Royal Flying Corps. My wifes granfather was a Lt We have his service record which states that he was grounded after an illness. With wings in his cap badge he had in a photo Does it mean he was a pilot Were all officers either a pilot or observer. When he was alive he refused to talk about WW1 and his service in the RFC

	The Royal Flying Corps cap badge had wings but not sure about if that was exclusive to Pilots, I have seen Royal Flying Corps cap badges with no wings Pilots did have Pilot wings worn on the left breast Roy

	Try e-mailing RAF Cranwell..............they should have the answer. They are unlikely to give you personnel details, obviously, but they should be able to answer the question about badges You could, of course, apply for the man's service records............. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/research-guides/raf-rfc-rnas.htm

	Apologies.......missed that In that case......................all available info about him is in your hands The word 'grounded' in the records is surely indicative of his having been on airborne service prior to his illness

	Reggie, Thanks for your efforts. It was a pity he would not talk to my wife about his service while he was alive

	Good place to visit is RAF Museum Hendon - they have quite a lot of info on the RFC.
