Does anybody have any information re the Church Army c1907 in London. I have found an ancestor with an entry in the Bethnal Green workhouse

"sent from here to Ch Army".

I am assuming this is the "church army"

They did run shelters - a quote from

http://www.churcharmy.org.uk/pub/aboutus/125/125articles.aspx

(Wilson Carlile and the early years of Church Army)

"In 1909 an interesting purchase was made. The original Men’s Home in Crawford Street had become rather too old to be of further use and so the Yorkshire Stingo Brewery situated at 187 Marylebone Road was purchased for £20,000 and became the major centre for the Men’s Social Department."

The site also states that it ran shelters for 'fallen women'.

The Church Army provided accommodation and support for unmarried mothers right up until the 1960's.

Suggest you google for info......................on all aspects of its welfare work

I have googled but have found very little other than the site quoted above which gives very little in respect to the history.

My relation was a male; wife and child stayed in the workhouse, so am wondering whether the provided any sort of rehab training etc.
