John A Boswell married Ethel M Leech in 1928, Ethel died in 1980, I think they had 2 sons and a daughter between 1928 and 1941, but I won't post their details as they may be still alive. You can find them on Cumbriabmd, and their youngest son may still be living in Barrow.

hi everyone

when i made my initial query on this board i did not reveal my great aunts information which was

the names

"boswel" and "bradley"," johhny boswel" and she knew uncle emmanuel

my aunt lives in bolton

she also said johnny boswell came from cumbria

my great aunt was born in 1940 so elizabeth must have been living well into her 60s

she also said elizabeth was "a good laugh" and she liked "cowboy films"

I would be tempted to say the 1930's marriage was not your Elizabeth Monk. THere are a few Elizabeth Boswells around

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1930
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
BOSWELL Elizabeth BRADLEY Emmanuel Bolton Register Office or Registrar Attended Bolton RO/221/102

On lancs bmd frequently if it is a second marriage the previous name is also shown in the index - not always but it could be used as an indication

However if you do order the certificate if you stand Elizabeth's father's name and it is not correct they will refund your money., but the name has to be exactly what is written on the certificate

Hi David, you can't be sure about the Bolton marriage for Elizabeth without a certificate to confirm it - unless your elderly relative remembers more about her husbands.

A tree on Ancestry had a death for Thomas, in US sometime in the 1940s (sorry I'm away all week and can't remember exact details), but after looking at the death they connected to I don't think they have the right person - birth quarter/year match, but he was not Thomas Arthur, he was Thomas John according to the burial record.

I guess you've found Cumbriabmd for John Arthur's death, in that case you should also be able to find his marriage and children - married in Barrow, 3 children born there - you can search with mmn to find them.

Isn't it more likely they went to visit Thomas's mother in America for a short time and just came back but later decided to emigrate?

It would be very difficult to get news of a death to them, arrange passage home and get back in time for a funeral - unless there was a lengthy delay between death and burial.

david

david Report 12 Mar 2013 14:29

yes i think this is the death of catherine monk

december 1905 liverpool

catherine Monk (nee bulger was born 1859) in liverpool so she would be aged 45 at death

probably the reason elizabeth boswsll came home from america for the funeral
