Why in 1901 and 1911 census was he called Percy Alfred Egbert Flint?

Probably cos his dad was also Alfred so junior was called Percy to distinguish him from dad

I agree with Shirley.

My Edward Henry ( b1890)son of Edward Henry was seen as Henry in 1901 and with an entirely different birthplace to the baby in 1891.
He reverted back to Edward Henry at marriage though.

Another part of my family registered a child as Robert, but buried him as Richard some years later.

As long as you are sure it's the same person, we have to go along with these quirky records.

It does seem funny that they gave him a name that has no connection to the family.

Another thing that is puzzling me is when is the census returns they talk about the size of the house may be 4 or 6 rooms is it just living rooms, bed rooms and kitchen they are talking about in the returns?

I know that most houses built in the 1800's early 1900's had outside loos

If you look at the form, living rooms, bedrooms and kitchens are counted - not bathrooms, lobby (hall I guess) or landing.

When you look at the size of some of the victorian families the must have an over crowding problem
