I think you have cherries to be proud of, Sylvia.

Joy Kentish Maid - please explain - lived most of my adult life in Africa so many English things just go over my head - lack of awareness.

Wonder if some folks have actually read the original post. It was a gentle question that is all.

We all know it is an individuals choice

Looks like anything I say I get a kicking anyway.......

Lol :-D :-D :-D :-D

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 10 Apr 2013 21:42

I have decided to remove most of what I said in this post, largely as a result of the fact that Susanwivnumbers, for one, didn't seem to understand the tongue in cheek way that i had intended the post to be taken.

Memo to self .................. double and triple check what you write before posting, as someone is bound to misunderstand your humour.

You'd have thought that I would have learnt better after almost 10 years on these Boards.

Although my message to NanaSue I think can remain ..............

.............. not sure I would categorise it as a "kicking"

I would call the responses you've had as "rather gentle" compared to responses other people have had on this site at various times, especially on General Chat (and that includes me)!

Annie

I'm not sure if you're serious about changing your board name, but if you are, can't you just change it under Account?

Sylvia

I visited my sister in Vancouver at this time of year and the streets were full of cherry blossom, just like your picture. Beautiful.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 10 Apr 2013 22:55

Andysmum ................

it is gorgeous here at this time of year.

There are over 37,000 flowering cherry and plum trees on the streets of Vancouver. And that doesn't include all the ones in gardens and parks.

What I particularly like is that there are many different varieties .............. so we get sequential flowering over about 6 weeks :-D

SylviaInCanada Report 11 Apr 2013 00:33

BTW

it was not Kuros who changed her Board name

"Thelma" tried changing hers, on this thread for some reason.

She changed it to Surok ................... hence, Cynthia's comment

Jonesey Report 11 Apr 2013 09:34

Dear Kuros,

I have investigated the problem of you currently being saddled with the board name of a dead pussy. My Google search for websites such as Passedpussy.com or Transmogrifiedtiddles.net brought up some interesting and illuminating alternative websites but nothing relative to your particular dilemma.

I then remembered that the ancient Egyptians had a thing about dead cats so I approached the problem from that angle. I came across pictures of an engraved obelisk which had amongst other things, a picture of a cat on it. Using Google Translate to translate Hieroglyphics to English I was disappointed to learn that the obelisk's inscription read, " Tutankhamun was a pussycat who loved his Mummy". No joy there then either.

In conclusion I have to say that I think that your only solution is to find yourself a new board name that GR will accept as an alternative to your existing one. Remember that GR now has strict rules about what characters a board name may contain. You may no longer include any "Twiddly" punctuation marks or characters such as !, £, (, * or @. You may no longer have any spaces between letters or words and most importantly your board name must not cause offence or distress to other members. Bear in mind that some GR members appear to get distressed very easily and often find offence when none was intended.

I will leave you to resolve the situation whilst I return to serious genealogy research and see if I can discover what became of my maternal great grandmother's cousin twice removed, Mary, who eloped with a man named John Smith.

Good Luck

Kuros Report 11 Apr 2013 10:25

Thank you, Jonesey. I'll have to do that methinks to rid myself of this unfortunate appendage. I wouldn't want to stir up those ancient Egyptians so I think I'll stay away from pussies altogether. We went to see King Tut three years ago and he wasn't looking very well then. I'd hate to make him worse. In fact, I think I'll give the whole animal kingdom a miss to be on the safe side. Watch this space!

I'm sure we must be related through your Mary and John Smith. Were they the ones who settled in the Gobi Desert and had sixteen children who became yak herders? What a coincidence! Small wor

Annie,

Good idea to steer clear of the Animal Kingdom except of course the Disney Animal Kingdom in Florida which has some interesting creatures and features but thankfully no dead felines.

If visiting there my recommendation is to take a trip up Mt Everest where you will see the only Yeti known to be in captivity. He reminded me of someone that I used to work for.

Not sure that your John and Mary Smith are the same people as my Mary and John Smith as family stories indicate that none of my lot were keen bovine owners. Mind you those stories could be bovine effluent.

Did you know that there is no such thing as Yaks milk? A Yak is the male of the species. The females from which the milk is extracted are known as Dri (Pronounced Dray in Tibetan).

Not a lot of people know that. ;-)

It does not matter to me in the slightest who posted this thread as I still think it was not needed especially on this board.

Would have got the same response

Why was this posted on this board?

It has no genealogical content.

General chat would be the best place for it

I don't know how to!!!!!

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 12 Apr 2013 14:16

Robert, simply go to 'Account' above and you'll see where you can upload a picture.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 12 Apr 2013 14:16

Select “Account” from the tabs just under the adverts.

This brings up My Account and shows Personal Details.

Scroll down the page and you will find “Profile Picture”

As I already have a picture I get different wording to show but I think it should be something like “Add Photo” but I might be wrong.

You should then get up a box which says “Select a file from you computer”

Click on Browse. Select your photo from your computer and then click on Upload. Should do it fairly quickly.

If you want to tell everyone what the photo is about then type some info into the Research names and places box

Then scroll down and click on save.

Fingers crossed.

If I am wrong than someone will put the right info.

Tenerife Sun

Tenerife Sun Report 15 Apr 2013 18:31

My board name is still two separate words. To do this I went to my account and where it asks for your name I put Tenerife Sun. No middle name no current surname. I put a row of asterisks for my birth surname as it wouldn't let me continue without something.

Where it asks if you want board name to be used when sending messages I put no. Now the only info on that part of accounts is Tenerife Sun as my name, my photo and pass word.

And it works....so far
