Surname History / Information for MARTINGE

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

JohnDoe Report 14 Apr 2013 14:04

With the help of others, I have gone as far back as 1530 to my 13th great grandfather who was surnamed MARTINGE..

But as this is possibly an old surname, or an old spelling of the surname, I can't seem to find any information or history about it.

Much Help needed please!

The meaning of Martinge come may come from a trade, such as the name "Brewster" which refers to a female brewer. Some of these craft-based last names can be a profession in another language. For this reason it is essential to understand the ethnicity of a name, and the languages spoken by its progenitors. Many modern names like Martinge originate from religious texts such as the Bhagavadgita, the Quran, the Bible, and so forth. Often these family names relate to a religious sentiment such as "Grace of God".

To be honest, the above seems to be a generic deffinition as it could be applied to any unusual surname.
