Have I now GOT to register to use the new Familysearch records - I've never done that in the past?

GlitterBaby Report 18 Apr 2013 15:15

No. Just used it without having to register.

nameslessone Report 18 Apr 2013 15:20

Thanks GB - just had another go and got into it via Family Records.
It is just more confusing. The new site seems to want you to find connections. The records search has a lower priority now.

Pam Report 19 Apr 2013 15:23

Oh no....they have changed it completely.

wisechild Report 19 Apr 2013 16:04

I´ve just got in without registering AND I found the IGI.
Patience is a virtue ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

lancashireAnn Report 19 Apr 2013 17:14

Just go in to as normal and select search. That should give you the familiar search screen

I am told on the 'front page' that I need to update my browser but I am already on the most up to date version!

I don't know if it is a standard warnng that everyone is getiing but the site is working perfectly for me even though they seem to think it wont :-D

mgnv Report 19 Apr 2013 21:13

About a year ago, before the latest new look, I found that I could search without any bother, but, sometimes, if I wanted to see the original images, I had to register - of course, I did - I've seen enough stuffed up transcriptions to know I should check the image whenever I can - I don't recall if this was UK images, or just US ones.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 20 Apr 2013 11:29

I had a problem a while ago, where it said I had to register to view an image. Even after doing so, I still couldn't. This was for Kent workhouse records which weren't indexed.

After several emails to their support in Utah, it transpired that some records could only be viewed on line from one of their family history centres, where you 'had' to sign in.

I had trouble too and got the update your browser. My oh said mine was fine.

The problem I have is if I put a name in I don't get any box to type details in but found if I clicked on the box twice I could type in there.

The problem I have now is I can't copy and paste from Ancestry to GR without it coming up all spaced out. I have tried refreshing the pages on both sites with no luck. Have Ancestry changed soemthing too?? It was alright the day before yesterday when I was helping someone but not yesterday or today.

MarieCeleste Report 20 Apr 2013 16:38

Mel - are you using Internet Explorer (possibly v8)?

If so, then clicking the compatibility icon (looks like a ripped page next to the internet address) on all pages so that it's blue might help the spacing out problem. Or download a more up to date version, or try Google Chrome or Firefox.

(If you've done all that then I'm stumped!)

Marie on Ancestry I have no broken page now thats what stumped me!! :-(

KenSE Report 20 Apr 2013 20:24

On Ancestry select View Printer-friendly and it should paste OK.

I'm using Mozilla Firefox

SylviaInCanada Report 21 Apr 2013 00:35

that's very strange!

LadyScozz Report 21 Apr 2013 03:48

If I search for census records in US I get the whole family.

If I search in UK I get one person at a time, no way of knowing who is a member of a family.
