I've just updated IE to version 10 and when I copy & paste, I have big gaps between the text lines :-S

I have entered it onto the compatibility view, along with Ancestry

I just knew I would have problems with the update

Thanks all

I have 2 PCs
One works on window7 the other is a MAC.
If I copy and paste stuff from Ancestry using theWindows7 one...I get those gaps too, but it doesn't happen with the MAC?
Will ask my resident Techno Geek... when she comes downstairs for dinner!

Edit:
Just tested The Ancestry problem theory but copying and pasting via the MAC is still fine.

This is windows 7 IE9 and has been ok until today and there is no torn piece of paper icon on the ancestry page...sure it was there before??

George_of_Westbury

George_of_Westbury Report 21 Apr 2013 18:22

Same as Jax has mentioned, i dont have the "torn paper" icon indicating compatibility view or not.

So it must be a Ancestry problem. All other sites i use shows the icon

Seems to be on all versions of IE

I never have any problems using Chrome, and pages seem to load faster.

There was a thread yesterday, I think, about the same problem.

Gee

Gee Report 21 Apr 2013 18:43

On IE10, you don't have the 'torn' paper, you have to go into 'tools'

Argh......................................

Kense

Kense Report 21 Apr 2013 21:07

I think the change has been to Ancestry which IE now considers to be compatible so that the Compatibility View facility is no longer needed.

The real problem is that the Genes messaging is so old fashioned that it cannot cope with the table formating and translates the format characters as newlines.

Basic Firefox does not copy tables properly but it looks OK when pasted ino a GR message. If you paste into Word then I believe the formatting is lost.

If the GR messaging was updated, then those pasted lookups would look more like the original than the untidy text we are used to. However with the current Error message problems it would be unwise to make such a change now as I'm sure it would worsen the situation.

For the present it looks like using Chrome or Firefox is necessary if you are pasting lookups into GR messages..

KenSE

When I noticed the birth details I had c&p today were not as they were before, it was not onto this site...I was posting on facebook...surely they are up to date?

Kense

Kense Report 22 Apr 2013 09:21

If the messaging system supports HTML then the format will be OK, if it only supports text messages then you get extra linefeeds. I presume FB is like GR and only supports text messages.

Glad somebody brought this up - thought it was something I was doing wrong.
Spend ages removing the line spaces which makes me a bit slow in answering some of the questions

Just given this a try now from the 1911 records on GR
