I hadn't noticed that my "free" credits have gone. I certainly had no warning from GR and their emails do go into my inbox, not the junk file. I also check the Announcements board regularly and there is nothing on there. GR being inconsistent again I fear.

So I've unchecked the watch boxes and have now rechecked them to see whether I receive any emails.

Yesterday I 'watched' this thread and double checked that it was ticked in the 'Watched Thread' list. Low and Behold - 3 alert emails this morning :-D

Sylvia,

I had 4 emails from GR through the week. There were 2 emails letting me know I had a couple of pm's and also 2 emails wanting access to my tree.

The week before Renes and I were sending pm's to each other and in those cases I received an email letting me know the pm was there.

On our Mac there isn't a junk mail folder. All our emails come into our inbox and any email that the program thinks is junk is in a different colour.

Gai ..................

I and several others got an email from GR last week to say that any credits we had left from the November 2011 "gift" would end their life on April 27.

I think we got about 2 days notice.

Could emails from GR be going into your Junk mail?????

Gai Report 5 May 2013 04:28

Well the Watch box is ticked for this thread and still no email.

2 other threads that I was watching with the watch box ticked have been added to over night and no email received.

Gai :-( :-( :-(

Edit. Just noticed that the 15 credits I had left from the credits that GR gave up have disappeared as well.

It seems to be that you have to first 'watch' a thread. Then you have to go into the 'My Watched Threads'. If you want to get email alerts when someone else posts, you have to tick the first column 'Watch'

If people don't realise ( or at least try it out) Cyn is still going to be busy ;-)

Doesn't seem to work from email preferences.
It only works when an individual post is ticked.

:-D :-D :-D

Oh well I must be one of the unlucky members who never receives emails for my Watch Threads.

Just checked my email preferences and yes I should be receiving the emails.

Gai :-(

What about the entries in My Watched threads file that I have NEVER clicked on, and not even posted on ............. and for which I am not receiving emails?????

I'm one of the many who find it just as easy to use My Threads

and I think it would be very nice to receive a pm from another member saying "Welcome to GR and the Boards." and then giving helpful advice.

It also does depend on someone actually paying attention to any emails sent in response to My Watched threads.

For example ....................... one of your own threads has had lots of replies on it NS, with some very interesting information, between about noon and 11 pm on May 3, but you have not commented on it?????

I know because I am one of the people who found the information

Well have to report

Received an email from the test watched thread

So it appears to be working

So well done GR

I have just seen a brand new user to the site and the boards post a request on Find ancestors today and recieved 16 replies....two hours later he posted the same request on Living relatives board, obviously not realising he had replies to his first thread.

A member has sent him a friendly message explaining how to return....or should it have been left for him to work it out for himself?

Renes Report 3 May 2013 17:55

Am running a test for one of my watched threads

It has been posted on ,,,

I have yet to receive and email

Agree but you can switch it off if they are too much.
Very good for those asking for help and those that don't have much traffic on the boards :-D :-D :-D

it may get annoying if you are very active on the boards and you receive an email for every single post, especially if email comes down onto your phone.

Yes, yes, yes - I'm chuffed to bits.

jax

jax Report 3 May 2013 14:42

If it is working NS will have at least 10 emails since she last looked in on this thread :-D

Renes Report 3 May 2013 14:34

I was one of be many who reported the 100+ email problem for watched threads , and was advised to untick the email notification ... Which I did

Are you now confirming NanaSue that this function is fully operational

jax

jax Report 3 May 2013 14:18

I seem to remember when they started this "watched thread" business a couple of years ago it went wrong and people were recieving 100+ emails for one reply.

I have found odd threads in my "watched threads" which I can only think my curser accidently ran over it and clicked it??

Rambling

Rambling Report 3 May 2013 14:15

:-D Cynthia, considering I have 97 pages of threads I've started myself I would be snowed under if I got an email every time someone added ;-)
