Bring back the Workhouse system!

Aaaaargh! My daughter's just come back from signing on at the Job Centre. It's not her fault that she's just been put out of work but it's clear that the system is not designed for honest grafters but for long-term spongers that are able to supply a string of excuses.

This is definitely NOT a comment on the many deserving people that apply for benefit, it's about the way the system is set up.The unrealistic and unreasonable suggestions given to her were quite obviously offered in the expectation of refusal. These 'jobsworths' are more interested in ticking boxes than finding work for people.

This doesn't seem any better than the old workhouse system. Maybe they should have offered her work picking oakum or breaking rocks.

Ooo, I don’t know.

The other day I found a resettlement order for one of mine listing all the places he’d lived.(doc dated 1911)

One entry states that he was employed on Relief work (Stone Yard) and received 10d a day, 6d of groceries and 2 loaves to feed a family totalling 5.

If you wanted to discuss the current Job Centres, you'd get lots of replies on General Caht
