Choccy, thank you very much. The reason why Grace, James (Fred), and Dorothy (Doffs) are so hard to find is that, as I have said they were put into care. You seem to have found out where.

My goodness me but you have all been busy! I can now go back to at least great, great granddad when I have the time but for the time being I want to concentrate on William Henry Augustus's half brothers and sisters. I have the info about Kathleen (Kitty). I think Great uncle Fred was James Frederick, but what about Chazz (Charlie), Grace and Doffs (probably Dorothy)? Somebody (can't remember who has suggested possibles for Grace and Doffs but I can't see the connection.

Sorry had to do lunch.

Marie I saw that on one of the census you put up I think. Will go and have another look as I think at the time I wondered if Elsie Haley was the mother and Alfred South the father.

Elsie seems to have been born a year before that marriage you found for Alfred South and Annie so perhaps they just did'nt get on.

Erin you must admit it is an interesting family. So many twists and turns.

I have been trying to find Annie this morning without any luck but I did put up a death which could have been her and it was in Hampshire so she must be there somewhere.

I have even tried looking for her born in Hampshire and not Cornwall.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 10 May 2013 12:40

Sounds to me like she ruled the household in that case!!!!

Adoption wasn't that rare apparently. I was told that when Great Grandad married his third wife Mary Catherine she placed all 5 (or 6) of his children in Dr. Barnado's, a children's home.

Mel....As MarieCeleste advised Christopher "it can become more than a hobby"...an addiction at times..!
I normally dont do English research...not my forte... but this just seems to have so many twists and turns...

Wonder why/how Elsie was "adopted out"...see what I mean..???

Poor Christopher...I wonder if he knows which way to turn...!

O girls you have been busy today.

Annie must have named Elsie Roseter after her sister Elsie.

Too right Eringobragh!

I've just sent him a pm with details of WHA Porter's teaching registration. It's a pdf so can't c&p to here.

Christopher, if you want us to stop digging, just say so! Don't want to spoil the fun of your own research. However, some of us have subs to other sites as well so may find other records.
