I've just seen some requests for look ups on FMP for News paper article.

The same is on GR as well - I've just checked for the posts requested - as expected they are there.

Some people are aware that GR & FMP are part of the same company.
Brightsolid online publishing limited has a 10 year contract to digitalise all the old British Library Newspapers & micro films held at Colindale in London - a mammoth job.

There are many reasons why peeps ask for look ups from other sites mainly because they don't have the subscription level on this site. It could be that they don't like the search facility on this site, I prefer GR's sister site FMP's search engine but only the UK. I'm less than impressed with FMP.ie, FMP.com.au and FMP.com search engines.

Post copied from another thread.

NanaSue,

The British newspapers archives were on GR before they were on FMP. When they were first on here you could only print a copy of the article and couldn't save a copy to your computer as a pdf etc. The only way to save a copy was to take a screen shot and it was very cumbersome.

Now I don't have access to the archives on here at present but today I discovered on FMP that you can save a copy as a pdf to your computer. It would be interesting to know whether you can now save an article using GR,

Yes you can add an article to Keepsake on GR or if you use the Snipping tool you can save and download to your computer. If you computer is set up to forward images as an email, you can email to anybody as well

Thanks NanaSue

It's great that you can now save to your computer and that's certainly an improvement for the members of GR.

Still can't work out how to save to my computer - the only way I've found is to take a screen shot and paste it into another programme :-(

Although there was a thread about the snipping tool earlier, it seems not to be part of our operating (or what ever) system.

Detective,

I can give you instructions on how to save from FMP to a Mac but not sure if it's different on a normal PC.

From what I understand if you have the platinum membership it does not include the British Newspapers....that is a seperate sub

If you have the full FMP everything is included...as we know there a probably more people that help on the boards using FMP records than GR's

As they are part of the same company I am sure I am allowed to say that

Ken - OH says we do have Vista. Although I have looked under Accessories, I can't find anything about a snipping tool.

regarding the Newspaper Archives .................

I started using them on the original site, before GR or FMP started carrying them

and still prefer that site.

I grant that BS now owns that site, but the search engine gives me better results.

Having (through various circumstances) three ways of accessing the British Newspaper Archives (GR, FMP & BNA), the independant BNA site (as posted above) has by far the best search engine. I haven't tried the Lancs library free version.

Roy - thanks for the link. That probably explains why its not on our PC. :-)
