Roy

thank you.

Persie ................

I also add EDIT:- (reason) to any post that I alter more than a minute or 2 after it appears on a thread.

It is only good manners, and courteous to others

do be careful that your snipping tool does not lead you into trouble in PNG.

Do remember Michael Rockefeller :-(

Persephone Report 30 May 2013 05:07

I didn't know Michael Rockefeller I was at School when that happened.

Where I am is very civilised rather like me in fact, I am also very civilised.

I have to be in Tassie by Saturday to catch some Tasmanian ocean Trout.

Good show .............................

PP and I have both been RR'd

and it is exactly what I expected!!!

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 30 May 2013 07:45

the first post to be RR'd asked NS if she had no apology for us, as she had declared "enough said" in an apparent attempt to end the discussion

The second post dared to show that NS had edited the Enough said post, in a way that changed the entire meaning of the original post.

PP agreed that he also had seen the unedited version, and that is why his post was RR'd

In other words ............

........ I am being muzzled when I dare to provide an opposite view to the OP.

GenealogyResearchAssistance Report 30 May 2013 08:21

How stupid to RR your comments. Does the RRer not realise that others have read the original comment before it was edited.

This verges on the ridiculous

CupCakes

CupCakes Report 30 May 2013 08:46

Persephone - it is not in the T's & C's.
I am somebody who hate being ordered about - it is all about personal choice. I'm to old to be 'taught' as you so elequolently put

Persephone

Persephone Report 30 May 2013 08:57

Does that mean that if someone asks you to do something you would see that as an order and request their post be removed?

Does it also mean that if someone has a differing opinion from yours (and I do see quite a few on the boards that differ from yours) do you have those posts removed as well?

I have noticed that you cause a fair amount of conflict where you tread (with painted toenails).

Have you ever stopped to reflect and think that you may march to a different drum from quite a few on here?

And consider why that would be so?

If I put myself in your shoes (though I don't wear sandals) I would be putting on my thinking cap and considering what is it about me that is causing others to have so much dissatisfaction with me.

Persephone.

I shall complain directly to GR, and ask that the RR'er .................. whoever that might be .................. be advised that free comment is still allowed on this site.

And there is a thread on here by this OP decrying the use of indiscriminate RR'ing.

Hypocrisy

Persephone - off topic - do you really live in Papua New Guinea - how exciting.

Persephone

Persephone Report 30 May 2013 09:29

BTW Sue we are never too old to be "taught" (did I eloquently put that)... or learn.

I saw somewhere on one of the boards that you were showing people various computer practices.

Do the people you teach object to your teachings?

I have found that life throws us all sorts of challenges and we are on a continual learning curve.... it plateaus but none the less still curves.

You learn you pass it on, you discuss, you debate, you hear and read other points of view and whilst you may not always agree with what you hear or read you handle it with dignity.

I hope I behave in a manner that is an example to my children and my grandchildren.

No Sue

Do I heck as like live in PNG I live way down under.. hence my name..

CupCakes

CupCakes Report 30 May 2013 10:09

Persephone - you have got this slightly wrong - what you are saying is very correct.
I'm a local community activist with gov/social training certs coming out of my ears - you are never to old to learn.

On the boards I read some of the 'stuff' but refuse to be intimidated and told what to do as if I don't know what I'm doing or I'm wet behind the ears. I hate the way some people are told what to do like they are in school - other posts are so spiteful - it tantamounts to verbal bullying. I try to ignore them but they are OTT.

I haven't got the time to be copying and pasting huge text from in some cases yonks - I'm not in to point scoring either

I often feel it is a ploy to discredit the boards so people will stop using them

:-( :-( :-(

Sorry my PNG joke fell flat on it's face

GenealogyResearchAssistance

GenealogyResearchAssistance Report 30 May 2013 11:07

NanaSue there is no conspiracy to discredit the boards. The boards are GR's greatest asset.

Sometimes the way advice is conveyed can come across as a little abrupt but that is not really the writers intention. The intention is to pass on the advice as quickly as possible which stems back to a time when the boards were extremely busy. The help given on these boards is excellent, however the number of posts has dwindled and I do not believe it is down to the advice given or entirely on the way it is conveyed. To keep a genealogy Facebook page I am involved in busy takes a lot of effort on the team's part to try attract new people. It is also down to making the page interesting apart from the look ups.

NS, Why RR posts such as the one I posted that only said

Sylvia, I saw the Edit of NS's post that you refer to

NanaSue Report 29 May 2013 21:36

Enough said :-D :-D :-D

then added "grandkids have persuaded dad to drop them here for a sleep over"

After Sylvia had asked if NS was going to apologise for her earlier posts

Perhaps instead of Removing again Sue you could tell Roy why or if you have to remove give an explanation.

I am still unsure what your motivation for this is... maybe I can learn something from this. In fact maybe we all can.

Ummm Sue, You were making a joke about PNG... I didn't realise .. would that be termed reigning on my parade?

We all like personal choices and I think/believe that some other people were exercising/ voicing their personal choices as well.
