Ken ................

I agree that I have no desire whatsoever to buy any of the things on offer, or enter the competition for books

But, there are "benefits" in the sense that YOU can make up your own mind as to whether you want these things

WE are denied the chance for that

we are basically being told that we are NOT loyal enough to join the Subscribers Loyalty Club.

As I said above ................. it's the darned principle of the thing!

Genes Extra is nothing more than an advertising under the guise of a benefit. I'm not gullible enough to fall for this type of advertising.

Kense

Kense Report 11 Jun 2013 07:44

Sylvia, there aren't any benefits. It is just an exhortation to spend money on things you almost certainly don't need.

Gins ....................

it's the principle of the darned thing

what sort of organization would honestly offer benefits of membership to some members but not others?

the blondes can have this but red heads cannot??

Imagine the outcry if that happened!

it's pure and simple discrimination

either offer the gifts or deals to everyone, or to no-one

Gee Report 11 Jun 2013 07:22

Alternatively, you might be able to send for the classic and classy Lambrini from Tesco :-0

I believe Tesco also stock books such as 'My First Dictionary' ;-)

Gee

Gee Report 11 Jun 2013 07:18

I'm guessing overseas members are not eligible due to postage & packing restrictions from the companies that are supplying the offers?

If anyone overseas wants any cheap plonk or some Janet & John books, I'll order them for you and post them on ;-)

:-D

Persephone Report 11 Jun 2013 07:03

I am really sorry that GR has seen fit to do this.

It discriminates against a lot of members from other parts of the world, who pay for the same services and often provide information to other members re their families in Canada, Australia, South Africa, USA, New Zealand and elsewhere.

I would tend to think it lacks professionalism and do wonder about the legal side of it.

Persephone.

I saw that box earlier, and realised that it did change the topic in it

My objection is two-fold ...............

I NEVER enter via the Home Page ...... I always come straight to Boards Summary, so I would never have seen any of the new things if Gai and others had not directed me there.

and secondly .........................

The whole Loyalty programme is currently a slap in the face to ALL overseas members, who are basically being told that they count for nothing in the eyes of GR

Like it or not, GR have created a 2-tier membership ................. those who can, and those who cannot, join the Loyalty Club and compete for prizes

thus pitting member against member.

a quite incredible thing to happen

CupCakes Report 11 Jun 2013 04:07

What I have suddenly realised is that under the Announcements in the right hand column of the Home page there is a box which changes (timed to very slowing rotate) - at the moment is has New Scottish records. It changes to Gene Extra's (for loyalty customers)

This is very misleading because there is no obvious indication that this is changeable.

BTW.................

I do use GR.co.uk ................

.......... but I cannot see the Genes Extra page without using the link that Thelma gave

so I would not have know anything about this if Gai had not started this thread.

I do not like,or understand this new set-up!

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 11 Jun 2013 00:44

I've looked at the link

and what a slap in the face

Members who do not live in the UK are not considered part of GR's Loyalty Club

That really tells me what they think of those of us from overseas.

EDIT:- ................ I have just complained to GR about the way that page reads, and means to an overseas subscriber

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 11 Jun 2013 00:42

nope

I don't have it

BUT ......................

what a cluttered mess Home page now is :-(

ALL I can say though is ..........................

what unmitigated discrimination against all the overseas members!

not that I want the books, or the wine, and the store vouchers wold be useless to me .........................

it's the PRINCIPLE of the thing!

What has any of this got to do with Family History?
It's just advertising.
Thank goodness it's not available in my country.

wisechild

wisechild Report 10 Jun 2013 15:58

I saw it this morning & clicked on it, only to be told it´s not available in "my" country yet.
Actually, my country is England.
I just don´t happen to live there.

Thank you, Ken.

So I read -
"Genes Extras are exclusively for our subscribers in the UK.
Sign in to take advantage of our latest offers"

I am a subscriber in the UK, but I use the co.za :-)

Well, there was me thinking 'I didn't see a Hellmans advert' and lo! there is the Genes extra.

But it has now gone back to Scottish relatives.

Not worth my fussing!
