Issues logging into GR

Genes Advisor 12 Jun 2013 16:09

Since our site update on Monday, members using IE9 have been experiencing some issues logging in and being logged out again. We are working on a more convenient fix for this, but in the meantime we advise you to either change the browser you are using to Chrome or Firefox, or to clear your cookies, close your browser and open it again. We know that this is not an ideal solution, but it will solve the logging in and out issue for those of you who want to access the site whilst we fix the problem.

NOTE:- also posted on General Chat, for information purposes to those who may not look on this Board.

I am using IE8 XP,all I keep getting is that dreaded ERROR page.

It is about time they got that right ....it has been long enough :-(

I use chrome, and have no problems going to genealogy or ancestors, but when I come back to My threads, I get an error message half the time - however, backing out and trying again nearly always gets me there - maybe 10% of time I've needed 3 tries, but it's not a big sample.

The 'dreaded' time out error message and the newly reported browser login issue are unconnected.

The former is a long standing problem with site capacity, whereas the latter, an incompatibility problem with certain browsers following the recent upgrade.

IGP - OK, but I didn't have this happening last week, so maybe "unconnected" is too strong - not directly connected I'ld believe, but It seems plausible to me the login problems might generate an additional processor load which would exacerbate their capacity problems.

Why should the paying members have to change their operating system to accommodate GR's failings?

It is GR's responsibility to ensure that their site is fully operable....no matter what OS one uses.

They have also posted on Facebook as well.

Hopefully once the problem is fixed with IE9 then the problem of the error messages for the rest of us can be fixed.

Not holding my breath.............experience has taught me that!

I've had trouble with IE and GR for months. I now use Firefox. I'm with Reggie that software designers should make their products reverse compatible.

I'm also having trouble today getting onto 2nd and 3rd etc pages of each board.

Don't you just love people who dick about with things because they CAN and not because they NEED TO? :-|

InspectorGreenPen

It looks like nothing to do with your Operating System. The problem which has arisen following the upgrade is with browser compatibility, or lack of it, not with your OS.

GR have admitted there is an issue so let's give them the opportunity to sort it.

However, as I have already said, don't hold your breath re the dreaded error time-out messages. This is a completely different issue altogether and has little if nothing to do with your PC set up, browser or OS..

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 13 Jun 2013 21:56

Where do you get the idea that anyone is referring to 'time-out'?

The ERROR messages under discussion are just that........ERROR messages

And GR has been supposedly 'sorting' these for the past few years.............

mgnv

mgnv Report 14 Jun 2013 01:17

Reggie - I now believe that GR issues its own time-outs as error messages. I got the idea from the behaviour of my PC prior to the Error display - a long period of waiting for a response from GR, followed by the error message display.

Unlike you, I've never seen GR's source code so hesitated to be dogmatic in my discussion.
