In case you have not seen it, there is a new announcement on the Announcement Board ..............

Genes Advisor 14 Jun 2013 16:00

One of the most common questions we are asked is ‘how can I print my tree’? Well, you’ll be pleased to hear that we have been talking to a professional tree printing company called My History. They have been printing trees for over ten years and are all amateur genealogists themselves, so they know what they are talking about!

They are offering a 10% discount to anyone coming from the Genes Reunited site when you print your tree with them. Prices start from as little as £9.95.
Maybe you just want a print out of your ancestors? Or would you rather have the full tree? There’s a wide choice of charts to choose from and different styles. There definitely is something to suit everyone.

To take advantage of this great offer all you need to do is follow these easy steps:
1). Go to the dedicated Genes tree printing page at My History - http://www.my-history.co.uk/acatalog/Genes-Reunited-Family-Tree-Printing.html#SID=846

2). Send My History a copy of your tree, which you can export from Genes Reunited as a gedcom file

3). Select the type of chart you’d like

4). Place your order

5). Your printed tree will be securely wrapped in a tube and delivered to your door.

If you are unsure of how to export your gedcom, please email [email protected] and someone will be happy to help you.

We hope you enjoy this new service.

So we can take it that Genes RU own tree cannot be fixed.
That's all right then.

'FROM 9.95'.
Nowhere does it give you a definite price.
Not that I'm interested in printing out my tree, but I would want to know the cost *before* sending it to any company.

jax Report 14 Jun 2013 19:31

If you start filling in the boxes the price goes up....it says generations but not sure if that would include any branches ect

Edit - it is different to the one they posted on facebook just did mine with 800 - 1200 relatives and they want £65.50

Ummm nah don't want more paper cluttering up the house

GR may be making their choice based on the amount of kick back? they get

Just done a price comparison and My History appears to charge double what Ron charges

I only live down the road from My History and Ive never heard of them until now but i may drop in and see if i can have a look at their work

I still would recommend Ron and Carol as they give you a price before you decide whether to go ahead or not.

Ron & his wife go to many of the Family History fairs.
They are both lovely people and it is worth finding their stall as they also sell many useful leaflets.
Ron usually posts when there is a fair coming up.

I saw that and looked to see what was on offer. Not impressed as when I selected a basic ancestor chart the price was £30, when I then clicked on 'buy' without adding any extras like background and dates of bmd it jumped to £60.......... how did that happen!!!!

If you have a half decent fh program you should be able to design your own charts and if like me you then save it to a jpeg [preferred] or a pdf file you can take it to a well known high street office supply company and they will ptint it out for you. I had 2 done on A1 photo paper [poster size] for about £45 pound. I could have gone larger/longer depending on need but that was suffienct for what I need at the time.

Many years ago I had a conversation with Ron of www.Genealogyprinters.com and I am sure he told me they could do me a tree from an excel sheet. (This was before I had any Tree software).

They will even organise to design your tree by phone & post.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 16 Jun 2013 13:20

I keep two trees on FTM - one Scotland and the other England.

Only had one printed so far by Ron.

Was amazed at how much time Ron spent on the phone to me as I wanted a different size print and colours because my Mother is blind in one eye.

Also loved the abiliity to see the finished article on his site before going ahead with the printing. It was tiny to view onsite but really did give a good idea of what the finished article would be like.

If you go to a Family History Fair then go and introduce yourself to Ron and Carol as you will be made very welcome whether you buy or not.
