I have today received a birth certificate and the person filling it out has put 23 4 1945 then crossed it out and put 23 4 1939. On the top in the bit that is typed it has 1945. The birth was registered on 1 6 1945 I am confused as to how someone can get a difference of 6 years and how do I know which is the right birth date?

sounds as if it may have been a very late registration or its an amendment to the previous birth entry.

What year did you find the entry under ?

If the person later married then you can check their age on the marriage cert

I found the entry under 1939 apr Henley v3a pj'45 and 1945 apr Henley v3a p2416. I ordered the 1945 certificate as it did not recognise the details I entered for the 1939 one

The most likely explanation is that the parents married between 1939 and 1945

Look for marriage info...................

Parents married 09 07 1942. I never thought that may have something to do with it
