I've just subscribed to find my past, and I might be a bit thick as I can't see if i can import an existing tree.
Do any of the very clever 'genies' know if I can import my existing tree to that site as a gedcom <3

Did you look in the FAQ section?

It says:

"We are in the process of moving to a new version of our family tree. The new tree currently does not allow you to import a GEDCOM but we're working on introducing this feature very soon. Full FAQs and functionality will follow soon – in the meantime, please contact our customer support team if you have any questions."

If I recall correctly that text has been there for yonks so don't know what they mean by very soon. Best to ask them.

I couldn't see where a gedcom could be uploaded, I know I have done it in the past

Just found this in the FAQs

Can I print my tree?
What does public and private mean?
Can I view the whole tree in one go?

First thought that came to my mind was:-
GR & FMP are sister companies within Brightsolid Ltd. Gedcoms can be uploaded to this site. So maybe the powers that be decided that there was no urgency about providing for full tree uploads on FMP?

I run my tree on this site, and copy across to Ancestry whenever the mood takes me. Two of my GR contacts do the reverse - private trees on Ancestry and upload gedcoms to GR.

I think that the only way to keep any photos, notes/comments, etc. on both is to have two original trees - one on each site. But if they get "out of synch" (different number of records, even if only by 1 ) it could be a long job to make any corrections.

You cannot upload a GEDCOM to findmypast at present. They have been saying for quite a long time that they are working to enable this feature.

CF
Some time ago I cancelled my subsciption to FMP. Thus I don't know what the FMP tree might look like.

Might I ask if there is a specific reason/need to upload to FMP? (eg viewing formats, printing formats, etc.)

If so, have you looked at any tree software other than the one that you have already been using to generate your gedcom file?
Especially free stuff?

Thanks 'genies'
My entire and reasonably extensive tree is on ancestry. I took up a discounted offer on FMP in the hope that a new site might furnish me with a new lead or two.
This is the reply I had back from FMP

Unfortunately at the moment the facility to upload a GEDCOM File is not available.

We are in the process of updating the Family Tree program with a brand new Family Tree application. We are also migrating all of our customers family tree information across to the new application.

During this process some of our customers will be on our brand-new version, but the majority of family trees are still on our previous Family Tree program.

We will be updating the instructions on site to confirm the changes, and once complete a new range of features will be available, including the ability to import and export GEDCOMS.

Kind Regards,

Michael Ancell
