My grandfather died when my mother was 2 years old. He had migrated from England 5 years before.

A physical impairment was seen as something shameful which is possibly why there is no mention of it on the census.

Did your parent or any of your parent's siblings comment on his deafness?

I doubt whether anyone would know whether a baby was deaf or not when registering them

Also why would it be mentioned on a death cert.....it wouldn't be the cause of death

My grandfather attended the Ackmar Road School for the deaf in 1898 aged 3. He was still there in 1894 aged 7.(Ancestry School Admissions and discharges) I am interested to learn more about this school. There are no references to him being deaf on his birth or death certificates or in the census.
