Not sure if this is the right board to post this on, but here goes,

I've been looking for any children of a Leslie Gordon Lewis b.1909 and his wife Winifred Bragg, they m in East Glamorgan, Wales in the J-S Qtr 1945.

Having found a possible daughter b.1951 in Bridgend looking at the transcript under mothers maiden name it's just got a line thro it, can anyone explain why this is please.
Many thanks

Unusual! The index does have just a dash under MMN and freebmd transcribe this as unknown. Two possible reasons spring to mind - the child had been abandoned, given a name and surname but obviously no mother's name would be known or the Index compiler could not make out the name on the copy of the Register.

The actual birth cert might help.

Could also just be a mark made by 'officer' when checking all entries done. ie a sort of tick ..

There were 15 births registered in 1951 with MMN Unknown - most of these the surname was also unknown. There were two which had later corrections (these would appear to have been wrongly registered - the second Christian actually being the Surname.

Are you certain that Bragg was Winifred's maiden name?

Apologies I should've put Leslie Gordon Lewis place of birth on my opening post.

I posted the birth purely for info...............

Do you know when/where Leslie died?

There is no record of a death for him on FMP

Thanks for this info. this one is possibly the most likely one, and at 44 it's also possible she had a daughter, (my mum had me at 43), not sure where I go from here?

If you do not know when they died...could they have left the country as it was just after the war?

ShelleyRose

Reggie,

Yes I could buy the b. cert, - just checked the FreeBMD, and it states under mmn unknown.

Also...are you sure that Leslie is the correct one?

Leslie Gordon also has another middle initial of C

There are a few Leslie G's that would fit with that marriage
