hi all
please can anyone point me in the right area to look for (possible thomas according to ancestry tree) wildsmith who was in the coldstream guards
my ggggrandmothers father
she was born approx 1806 whilst he was serving at walmer castle kent
he was from bromsgrove worcestershire and must have gone back there as mary was married there in 1825
sorry no dates for him or definate name

If you aren't sure of his name, how do you know where he was born?

What is the source of your info about his having served with the Coldstream Guards?

i have a book called Many Hands about the hands family
mary married james hands in 1825
it says she was born in kent and i found one of the census says she was born in deal kent the book says he was in the coldstream guards no other info on him apart from the fact his family ran a furniture shop in bromsgrove

However, you need to be aware that they charge £33-00 for searches, which is non refundable, even if they find nothing.

The difference in price between a BMD cert and Army records is that it's part of the job description for staff at the GRO and so they are set up in order to reproduce certs for all sorts of reasons including family history where as the MOD/Army are not, their job description is to defend our country and any records they hold would take a member of the admin staff off their main job in order to look through their "paper files" for the person in question,

It could take hours or even a day or so to find the record, so £33 is very cheap when you look at how much people are charged for 1 hours labour for car repairs or an MOT at nearly £60

(old records are not digitised as a matter of course by the MOD)
