In general, the birth would have been registered in the birth mother's name, but then the baby would have been re-registered in its adoptive name if he/she was legally adopted.

You should be able to find the first registration, and the second one only if you know the adoptive name.

There will however be no connecting the two so buying one will not give you the other name.

How common was the aunts surname, and was she married at the time?

Hi

I didnt think this would be easy. Spent most of the day trawling the Birth register to see if I could find something and coming up with nothing.

This was in Leeds and sometime in late 60's early 70's.

The child should have been Registered in the normal way...however it would depend on where and when as to what actually did happen....! In truth not an easy question to answer...

I hope someone may be able to help me with this.

I'm doing a friends family tree, and come accross an aunt that lived in a Catholic Home for unmarried mothers. She had a child, that was taken straight from her and adopted.

Would this birth have been registered in the normal way; eg The mothers name on the certificate and register. Or would the couple that adopted the baby just register the birth in their name?

Any help or guidance appreciated.
Thank you
