Hi, I have found my ancestor on the LDS site but can't access the image, I was wondering if some kind soul who has access to either of the above would be willing to do a census look up for me please. I am looking for all the information given on each census.

Lou, as there were 3 Elmer Henrys born in Penn roughly the same time do you know who his parents/siblings were so can look for other records?

He IS Elmer Ellwood!

What is odd is that the name Bessie has been written over another name and I can't make out what it is.

Thanks so much for your terrific help. In answer to your question do I know anything about him - sorry No. She is my ancestor and all I know is this marriage; I found on 1910 census his middle initial was E and that's all I have.

I've just noticed on all the census' after it gives wife's name it states ' Father's birthplace' Ireland, Mother's birthplace Pennsylvania; would this relate to her father or his?

Have deleted the baptism for Elmer EllsWORTH Henry as yours is Elmer EllWOOD Henry.

That would always relate to the person to whom the transcription related, in this case his.

I'll check hers - can you tell us anything more about her?

EDIT: According to the 1930, Bessie was born Penn, as were both her parents.

I did notice the difference but wondered if it was a pronunciation mistake.

They were definitely 2 different people, I've found them separately on the census. Just born a few months apart. Elmer EllSWORTH Henry married a Sally Weaver.

In addition to the birthplace I've put for Bessy above, the 1920 census indicates that her mother was born Penn but may be of German origin.

That's a massive clue and has helped me a great deal. Her mother was definitely not born in Penn, but she might not have known that because the family emigrated from England to the USA in 1881. Her mother's was of Welsh origin not German. So that has helped me enormously and has proved I'm on the wrong trail.

But I really do thank you for your time, patience and effort, because without this last little snip of info I'd have been travelling down a very wrong path.

Gosh don't know what's happening to this page, but I've only just got your message asking for info relating to Bessie, so once again sorry about that.

As mentioned above, her father was born in England and her mother was Welsh, they emigrated in 1881 along with siblings. But as mentioned she was 7 when her mother died and only 17 when her father died. She may well of thought her parents and siblings were all born in Pennsylvania. There is no German ancestry in that family.

So do you think that the Bessie who married Elmer was a different person? Or do you know for definite that he was her husband?
