I haven't found Bessie's death and that was one of the marriage I found for her via the LDS site under 'Orphan marriages' which seemed to fit the bill as her father died in 1903.

I have the family via Ellis Island emigrating in 1881 and have the 1900 census image. I have her mother's death certificate and Bessie's birth certificate. I have recently discovered that her father remarried in 1897 via the LDS site and have their marriage certificate.

Cornelius E Baker b 1850 England (I have his birth certificate but on the marriage certificate states he was 1851 but has the right date and month.
Lydia Baker (1st Wife) b 1850 Wales)
Sarah Baker b 1870 Wales
Arthur J Baker b 1872 Wales
Mary A b 1875 Wales (I think I have her marriage and living with sister Sarah)
Harriet Hannah b 1880 England
Edward Baker b 1883 Pennsylvania
Bessie B 1886 Pennsylvania.

The following info is only what I've found but does match with siblings names;

Sarah married a Heary Shomberg
Mary married a Charles Yeo
They are living with both hubby's on 1900 census.

Brother Arthur wife married Yeo but so far I havne't managed to find if they are connected.

Lou

Sorry totally forgot to say, don't know for sure who she married; They lived in Allegheny, Pitsburg, Pennsylvania,

Lou, the Orphans dept in Philadelphia issued all marriage certificates, I believe!

I know it seems odd, but every marriage record I've found for PA has been administered by them.

Anyhow, I'll have a dig around and see what I can find.

MarieCeleste. Oh dear i certainly got that wrong, but thanks for the tip.

Cornelius' 2nd marriage was to an Elizabeth R Deer in 1897. I have now found in the 1910 census for Penn an Elizabeth R Baker - widowed with a daughter named Elizabeth M Baker aged 27 which is close to her actual age which should be 24

The only name I have for Bessie is just that. Her birth certificate from the USA just states Bessie and that's all that's on the 1900 census. She was born however on the 20th August 1886 and her brother Edward was born in the Feb of 1883

Just posting the first thing that popped up:

Philadelphia Passenger Lists, 1800-1945

He's described as a returning American citizen going to what looks like Baldwin, PA.

He was a machinist. Looks like he may have been visiting Birmingham.

Lou, what birth date do you have for Cornelius?

Birth Date: 31 Jul 1849
Age at Death: 59
Death Date: 5 Sep 1908

Who did he remarry in 1897? (Whoever it was, she's not with him in 1900)

Hi birth date was 9 Aug 1850 died 21 Dec 1903. He did return to Birmingham as his father was dying. I've not found him in 1890 as I was told those records were destroyed in fire!

Yes, those 1890 records are gone. Great shame as they would have been invaluable for this and lots of other researches.

I've now seen his death record from 1903. It states he was a widow so that makes your 1910 find unlikely. His last residence before death was 3028 McClury, 24th ward (Previously lived Homestead, PA). Accidental death following a fall. Both him and his parents born Wales.

~Looby Loo~ Report 21 Jul 2013 22:38

Yeah! although not entirely true. His wife's family were all Welsh, he was actually born in Staffordshire but he lived in Wales, married there and most of his kids were born there, except for those in America. Yes I've had a re-think on the 1910 find and agree with you.
