Gins Report 27 Jul 2013 15:49

I don't think there is a time limit

Reggie Report 27 Jul 2013 15:54

Did the Will go to Probate?

Elizabeth Report 27 Jul 2013 17:16

I have no idea Reggie

Gins Report 27 Jul 2013 17:24

Provided you have the name and date of death, the probate office will undertake a search for you, 4 years either side of the date of death

£6.00 for the search, including a copy of the Will, if there was one

Use the link I posted earlier

Reggie Report 27 Jul 2013 22:28

If no copy of the Will can be found, you will not be notified, and your £6.00 will not be refunded

Only Wills which go to Probate are in the public domain.

Tank you bot for your help
Would you happen to know if there is any other way I could find out if it went to probate
the solicitor was the sole executor

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 28 Jul 2013 10:23

Ask the Solicitor? ;-)

Reggie Report 28 Jul 2013 13:16

How did you find out about the Executor?

Elizabeth Report 28 Jul 2013 13:32

in a letter from their offices sent to inform me of the persons death the solicitor is stated as executor of will have asked for a copy several times over the past 2 years and am still waiting

Andysmum Report 28 Jul 2013 15:50

If the solicitor, in his capacity of executor, wrote to tell you of the death, it sounds as though you are a beneficiary.

If that is correct, and you haven't received your legacy, then either there is a delay in obtaining probate, or there isn't enough money in the estate to cover their fees or possibly they are just not very good solicitors.

IF my guess is right, do you know another solicitor you could discuss it with?

If my guess is wrong, please put it down to a vivid imagination!!

If you use the link posted by Gins and scroll towards the end, there are addresses for local Probate offices.
I went in to Winchester office and was able to check for myself, free, whether or not a person who died in 1983 had left a Will which had gone to probate.

Advisable to phone first to check if you can do this in the other addresses.

Gins Report 28 Jul 2013 17:21

Just to add to 'Andysmum' post...the Will may be 'contested'

Either way, as I and Gwen have advised, contact the probate office, by telephone

Elizabeth Report 31 Jul 2013 08:20

will do thank you

Elizabeth Report 31 Jul 2013 08:21

Thank you to everyone who has helped
I contacted the relevant probate office and they are going to do a search

Andysmum Report 31 Jul 2013 15:38

Good luck. :-) :-)
