Help needed concerning WWII army records .....

I'm wondering why my ancestor, a member of British R.A.S.C. stationed throughout Middle East and Western Desert during WWII should have been seconded to various companies including No. 4 Naval Fighter Wing during his service.

Please could anyone offer any suggestions or explain the reasons. I have a copy of these records but they appear to be very complicated to understand.

Many thanks .....

The very nature of the RASC meant that its members were likely to be seconded to any type of unit at any time.

When I served, I was with an Intelligence Corps unit, but our Company driver was a member of the RASC

Google RASC to get a better understanding of the functions of the Corps

There may be War Diaries at the National Archives for the units he served with, which, as well as giving you information about where he was serving and what he was involved in, might offer some explanation.

Thank you for your advice Reggie, it is much appreciated.

Do I presume that even though he was Army based, he could be seconded to other service units, ie the 4th Naval Fighter Wing?
