Would anyone be kind enough to check my findings please. I have George Fish 1821-1869. His mother is Betty b. abt. 1795 in Hadfield, Woodhouse, Yorkshire, in 1861 census. She is with George here. 1861 census she is with husband Robert. This time it says b. Hadfield, Lancashire, England. There is a marriage for Robert Fish and Elizabeth Moor 28 Sep 1818 in Owston. Lincolnshire. Also a baptism record for Elizabeth Moor 31 Jan 1795, Wrawby, Lincolnshire. I want to be certain before I put it on my tree. Kind Regards, and thank you

I am finding the way you have put this a little confusing.

I have found this
1851 Address: New Street, Sheffield
FISH, Robert Head Married M 56 1795 Potato Dealer
Lincoln, Ferry
FISH, Elizabeth Wife Married F 55 1796
Lincoln, Ferry
FISH, John Son Unmarried M 22 1829 Labourer
Lincoln, Ferry
FISH, Sarah Daughter Unmarried F 18 1833
Lincoln, Ferry

1861 Address: 29, New Street, Sheffield
FISH, Robert Head Married M 43 1818 Potato Merchant
Butterwick, Lincolnshire
FISH, Betty Wife Married F 66 1795
Hadfield, Lincolnshire
WADE, Samuel Son In Law Married M 35 1826 Shoe Maker
Rotherham, Yorkshire
WADE, Sarah A Daughter Married F 29 1832
Guston, Lincolnshire
WADE, Corneluis Grandson M 5 1856
Sheffield, Yorkshire

It is the same family as it is the same address but there is something wrong with Robert's date of birth.
No sign of George with them though.
I presume you are working backwards from George so could you post the info you have on him.

How did you get back to these people?

We can't comment on whether or not they are 'right' without knowing which of them is proven 100% to be your relative

My apologies to you all for the confusion. The censuses you have posted are ones I am using. I made a mistake when writing about the death of George. I should have said he died in 1889, age 69, and I have the cert. Death notified by son Arthur.I have a death cert for Robert Fish,1869,age71, a potato dealer, address Clifton Street., notified by R Fish ( more confusion) and a death fot Betty Fish, widow of Robert Fish, a potato dealer, address Clifton Street. she was age 79, notified by Sarah Ann Lintin ( The Sarah Wade in the 1861 census. ( she remarried) George was baptised 01 Jan 1822, parents Robert and Elizabeth Fish. He had a brother called Robert, and went on to have a son Robert. George married Ellen Winn 11 Oct 1842. I hope you can make sense of this.

I should add, I am descended from George Fish through my maternal grandmother. I have traced George from his son John thomas Fish, my gt. grandfather, whose daughter was Annie Fish.

Chris, I have found that, thank you very much. My concern is the different place of birth of Betty (Hatfield, or Hadfield) how do I know that she is the same person as Elizabeth who married Robert fish in Owston, and whose children were born in Owston? ( I have seen the records)

LadyKira

LadyKira Report 8 Aug 2013 18:54

I used FMP for that Curiosity.
I entered lived in Owston as the field and Fish as the surname.
Nothing else.
I find the search engine is more versatile.

I'm not familiar with FMP ( what does that stand for?) and does it cost to search?
I don't think this is my George as he was bapt. in Owston Jan 1st 1822
