Susan Report 3 Feb 2014 19:42

Has anyone found a relative that was in prison? The relative I think who was was sentenced in 1892 in the Clerkenwell Sessions House. It doesn't say what prison they went to, but gives the offence of 'wounding' with the sentence 18 months. I would like to know what happended when he left prison as he seems to go off radar.
Any ideas how I could get hold of the record? Thanks

Thank you for your replies.
MarieCeleste. His name is George Samuel Tiencken, he was born Bethnal Green, London in April 1874. His mother was Elizabeth Margetts and his father Claus Tiencken (German). He had two sisters: Ann and Charlotte. I lose him after 1892. Can't find any record of a death or marriage other than the prison record. I'd be grateful for any pointer as to where I go from here. Thank you again.

Hi Susan, were you aware he was in the workhouse when the incident happened? Don't know if records there (if available) would help?

From Newspaper Archive

Publication: Gloucester Citizen
Publication date: Monday 24 October 1892

"George Tiencken, an inmate of the Poplar Workhouse, is under remand charged with having fractured the skull of the labour-master by striking him with a broom."

That's the first article I've come to - will keep reading.

Thanks for that Maddie, it was very interesting. He didn;t last long in service did he. So he must have gone to the workhouse when he left, and from there to prison. Just need to find out what happened to him when he was released now.
Thanks again.
