I think if you got it from Workington library they would only hold local newspaper history on microfilm - they are not an archive centre. This is probably why you can't read it, it will be a print from a rather badly micro-filed newspaper.

The nearest archive centre is at Whitehaven, but again they only hold microfilm newspapers I believe, and not the originals.

I think it may be from the Times & Star, which was the Workington local newspaper - you could try contacting the publishers to see if they still have their archives. (google workington star, and you should find it)

I have the article in front of me, unreadable apart from the date and headline. Can't work out the name of the paper, it is something Times (not been scanned).

Are you sure the other article was in the Times?

I contacted the workington library for any news reports on the death of Mary Philomena McGeown 18th July 1931 and they scanned two paper clippings. Unfortunately these are unreadable and werent scanned at high enough resolution for me to read, this has now become a want more than a hunt. I have contacted them again a number of times regarding re scanning but no luck! So here is my question, can anyone on here access them for me. The larger of the only two they have is headed "Workington Mystery solved" It contains an interview with her dad Michael Mcgeown and his thoughts on her death, the coroners name and verdict. It was printed in the (?) Times wed July 29th 1931 this is the one I am after. I live in Devon so am not able to visit in person.
