The address is not showing up on the census or the 1939 register.

How old do you think the house is?

EDIT - You were using the wrong spelling of the Lane. It is Drewry Lane. Will have another look.

Kath,
Thank you for your replies.

The surname I was looking for was Payne, so your reference you gave for Hannah & Eileen are my Aunts. Hanna's maiden name was not Holt so I don't understand the meaning HOLT/ before PAYNE.

Do you have any ideas?

Can you please let me know what register is this record from and what month in 1939?

I am trying to locate any more Paynes, shane 2 recordsare sealed.
Thanks again

How was the 1939 Register compiled?
Answer:

65,000 enumerators issued households with registration forms to be completed on September 29th 1939.

The following week, enumerators visited each household to check and collect the forms and to issue the identity cards to anyone who had been present in that house or institution on the 29th September 1939.

What is the 1939 Register?
Answer:

At the outbreak of World War II, the government urgently needed to know everything it could about the civil population of England and Wales. This information would be key in the issuing of identity cards and ration books as well as organising conscription and, after the war, creating the N.H.S.

To gather this information, they took a National Register. On September 29th, 1939, the personal details - including names, dates of birth, occupations, marital statuses - of 41 million individuals were recorded.

This release is the result of over a year's work carried out by a team of hundreds who - in association with The National Archives - have conserved, scanned, transcribed and digitised over 1.2 million pages from 7,000 volumes, comprising the most significant record release of the decade, and one of the most important documents in modern British history. To put the scale of the work into context, were you to stack the books on top of each other, they would be 227m high, over double the height of St Paul's Cathedral.

The fact that Hannah is transcribed as Holt/Payne just means that at some point AFTER the 1939 register was compiled she married or lived with a Mr. Holt and took his name. The register was updated on a regular basis until about 1990.

There are quite a few letters and numbers in the margin next to Hannah's name on the original image which I can't make out properly but these probably have something to do with the name change.

EDIT - Actually, looking at the image again, when the register was first compiled and Hannah is called Hannah Payne it says she was married, so she must have either married for a second time or called herself Holt for some other reason.
