Hi Elaine and Mike Thanks for your replies. George has proven to be VERY tricky!!!! I have tried to trace his nephew back. I have found a William Fauks on the 1861 census: Name: William Fauks Age: 7 Estimated birth year: abt 1854 Relation: Son Father's name: George Mother's name: Ann Gender: Male Where born: Hickling, Nottinghamshire, England Civil parish: Hickling County/Island: Nottinghamshire Country: England Household Members: Name Age Ann Fauks 38 Elizabeth Fauks 11 Thomas Fauks 7 William Fauks 7 Ann Faulks 1 George Faulks 38 George Faulks 4 However, this does not link with his birth in Cumberland as on the 1871 census when he is living with George!!!! The only thing I have found is that sometimes the name Whitehead is mis-spelt to Whitchead, but still not been able to trace any further back. I am very reliant on the net as I live in Vancouver, so I am not able to go to parish registry's myself. Are there any other websites you could recommend??? Thanks again Gemma.

Hi Elaine Yes that is the correct entry. The William Fawkes entry I found on the 1861 census is just a guess, I could not find him anywhere else on that census and thought that could possibly be him??? Let me know what you think? Thanks Gemma.

Hi Gemma Have come to the conclusion he's with George 1861 !!! Was hoping that would make you smile, well there are 38 William Fawkes and not one born in Nottingham. I guess it will be a case of looking at variations of the name and a quick look at freebmd for Nottingham only has one marraige in Nottingham for a William Fawkes 1900 ( I put a search in from 1871). Sorry I couldn't help anymore at the moment Elaine
