Not sure if you're still tracking this post:
The family were all baptised as Gotts alias Nurse, hence the confusion. In some census they are shown as Gotts, in others as Nurse. First marriage was to Maria Mills in 1869. Second marriage was to Sarah Hailes in 1882.

hi Ozzibird I must admit I had come across the Nurse family too and wondered if for some reason they had changed their name because the family does fit in 1861but the only problem I had was 2 lines up on the census is Thomas Gotts - widower with no children date and place of birth similar to Thomas Nurse. Do you think its possible they changed there name because there was another Thomas Gotts - but why Nurse - It drives you made! Tell the truth I seems to run in the family - the other side changes between Thurston & Stoliday so anything is possible. Thanks for the help
