Hi I wonder if anyone could help me. I have been searching for a birth for my g g grandfather Benjamin Hipwell. On all censi he states he was born in Catthorpe - the year of birth changes a bit - from 1824/5 to 1828. I have searched for births in Catthorpe, Swinford and Lutterworth, but no joy. He married twice and both times he states his father as being William Hipwell. There was a birth in 1832 but this child died a few weeks later. Please can anyone help? Many Thanks Angela

Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC) Report 24 Jan 2007 21:19

Greeting’s & Welcome. ……. Angela…. We are talking about the Benjamin Hipwell the Bricklayer ? 1st. …. Sorry for the delay but it needed a second opinion of a very “ Good friend Elaine “ from this site on the 1841 Census returns. We both are sure there was a miss translation of the details regarding his age. Making Benjamin aged 16. & working as a Male Servant within the household of Elizabeth Watthan aged 43 a Widow born outside the County. And living next door to a Joseph (50) & Sarah (50) Hipwell in the Village of Swinford. So….. if this information is correct…then it puts it BEFORE Registrations began in 1837….So I’ll have to look at the Parish Baptism Registers at Wigston. Hopefully this will give us the names of Benjamin’s parents…… The thought crossed my mind if Benjamin’s parents died whilst he was young & he was brought up by a relative also named Hipwell ( William ) ? As soon as I have further information for you I’ll post it back on here….. MIKE.
