Thanks Mike There do seem to be two WD's from Sileby - for the same date on the 1841. Mine is down as 'abt 1826' on the 1851 census (I know this is the right one as his son EDWIN is my ancester) Thanks A

I recently ordered the Husbands Bosworth parish registers from my local LDS centre, only to find that the whole lot has been transcribed and is available on Rootsweb. My interests are Bale, Berry and Steans if anyone else is researching that area and wants to exchange information.

*** F.A.O. Allie…… I think we might be getting somewhere now...... Going on the information gained from the 1851. Census. For William & Mary Dakin in Sileby. With your known Relative Edwin aged 1 Month Old. You will see that William was born in Seagrave. And had the Occupation of a Carpenter. So I went to the 1841. Census This directed me to the village of Cossington. And where I found a William Dakin ( b 1825.) Carpenter’s Apprentice. Born within the County of Leicestershire . Living with his Family.:- Jonathan Dakin. 44. Carpenter. Mary. Dakin. 50. Mary Ditto. 18. WILLIAM Ditto. 16. Carpenter App. Edward Ditto. 12. Ditto. Elizabeth. Ditto. ALL above Born within the County. From the I.G.I Batch Numbers site. Found Christening Details :- Edmund Dakin.26th. April. 1829. Elizabeth. 4th, Sept. 1831. Also a Jonathan Dakin. 2nd. June. 1827. ALL Christened in Cossington All Saints Parish Church. And with the Parents Jonathan & Mary… But no ref to William found. Then using my Disk of Early Marriages within Leicestershire Found the following Marriage :- Jonathan Dakin. Bachelor of the Parish of Sileby. Mary SMITH. Spinster of the Parish of Seagrave. Married. at All Saints Parish Church. Seagrave. 19th.December. 1820. Following Banns. So……. I see from the 1861. Census return for William & Mary They are carrying on using known Family Christian Names :- Jonathan, Edwin, William. Which are good points that we may well be on the right lines for these earlier finds above ? MIKE. xx .......... Time to blow out the candle me thinks.....

Greeting's & Welcome Carrol...... As you can see below.... ALL your Villages come under Nottinghamshire Parishes in Nottinghamshire (1837-1930): Costock, * East Leake,* Normanton on Soar, Rempstone, Stanford on Soar, * Sutton Bonington,* Thorpe in the Glebe, West Leake, Willoughby, Wysall. all above now ( Present day) come under Nottinghamshire & Rushcliffe Districts Also Bunny is within the County of Nottinghamshire. So I don't have a working knowledge of the Villages although I've been to them.... But..... Having said that I do have a very good colleague on another site who does have a working knowledge of Nottinghamshire...... Or ' Eliane ' on this thread might be able to help ? You need to gather info 1901 up to present date from living relatives if possible..... You need to start from an known fact and work back wards. MIKE. xx UPDATED :- I've just been on the I.G.I. site and there's plenty Savage Christening / Marriage Details for all your Villages within Nottinghamshire District .

Mike, I wonder if you could help me. I am looking at my Jarvis side of my family at the moment. John Jarvis married Martha Law 16 March 1862 All Saints Parish Church Leicester. The father of John is listed as William Jarvis Frame Work Knitter. The father of Martha is listed as James Law Labourer. On the census she is listed as coming from Exton in Rutland and born in 1839. I can only find a Thomas and Francis Law with a daughter called Martha living in Exton. Where am I going wrong, and ideas. Thanks JoJo

Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC) Report 16 Aug 2006 02:38

Greeting’s Again …Jo Jo ….. I’ve tracked John Jarvis ( b 1837 ) With Parents William & Mary A. Frame Work Knitters back to 1841. Seems they didn't move away from Talbot Lane. Here they are in 1851. Census :- HO 107/ 2090. / 351./ 27. 166 Talbot Lane William Jarvis Head M 34 M F.W.K Lei Leicester Mary A. Jarvis Wife M 37 F Seamstress Lei Mkt.Harborough John Jarvis Son 14 M F.W.K Lei Leicester M.A. Jarvis Dau 8 F At Home Lei Leicester Eliza Jarvis Dau 2 F At Home Lei Leicester I see Martha Law was just around the corner on the 1861.Census In St. Nicholas Square Working as a Servant In “ The Talbot Inn “ Yes I also found Martha in Exton Rutland both on the 1841. & 1851.Censuses. And has you stated gives parents Thomas & Frances. Over the page in 1841. There is another Martha Law but aged 13. With Mother Mary (55) But no Father within the Household. The only Burial of a James Law. In Exton was 16th.Oct 1840. But Aged 3. And again on the 1851.Census on the next page back from Thomas & Frances Martha is down as Sister in law and with a Daughter Emma aged 5. Living, Within the Household of a William & Elizabeth Dawson. I think I need to have a look at the Marriage Register of John & Martha in 1862. All Saints Church. At the Records Office If only to confirm the name given of Martha’s Father. It might just have been transcribed wrong from the register A “J” could look like a “Th” and it doesn't help names ending In “ mes” or “mas” both could look like James or Thomas So in the end you might not have done anything wrong…. “ Watch this space “……. Time to blow the candle out methinks …. MIKE.
