They usually ask you to click on the name at the top of the list as that is the group in most need of vollies. They will contact you very quickly and send you the info and programs you need. Good luck - and dont forgot the predictive bit - dont do pages and pages typing out every first name in full like I did!

Thanxs Heather Again lol How do I do the predictive bit? will they tell me? I take it they wont because you didnt know at first lol....

Heather

Heather Report 26 Jun 2006 18:52

They will tell you everything - I was just thick and didnt realise it was there to use! After my test run, the chap said, I cant see how you xxxxxxxxxxxxx is not spelt right (Id transposed 2 letters in a name) when I said well Id typed so many that day - he did LOL, didnt realise poor old dear was sitting here typing in all the Gertrudes and Josiahs! In fact that bit of the program hadnt come on for some reason, but I soon sorted it with his help.

I followed the setup instructions, and the 'predictive' pick list came up automatically (I didn't have to install it separately). You'll laugh at this, but as a typist I find the predictive list a nuisance and end up overtyping all the time lol! Mandy :)

Heather Report 26 Jun 2006 18:55

Actually Mandy, I felt like that too - because you type in a few letters and the name choice comes up and it sort of stops your flow in your typing doesnt it.

Does anybody know the time difference between NZ and UK? I think the Syndicate leader I contacted is from NZ as it says that at the end of his Email addy it says his name then .net.nz so does that mean they are in New Zealand? Any ideas? Lesley :~)

I started doing it a couple of months ago, I was sent 6 pages which I transcribed, births, W, 1911, submitted them, wrote of to my coordinator three times now, and never heard another thing. Pity because I enjoyed doing it, and as I use FreeBMD regularly I wanted to give something back, but if they don't want my services...

Thats Bad Teresa Maybe they are having problems and unable to get on pc? Can you not get in touch with a different syndicate or the site Email addy to find out? If you enjoy it its a shame to stop Lesley :~)

Teresa I think you have been unlucky. I know quite a few syndicates are looking for transcribers. Perhaps you should think about signing up to another one. Jean x.

If the one I contacted regarding joining is in NZ can I join with a UK one instead even though I have asked them already? I would like to be able to contact someone that is a bit closer in the time zone lol

I should really. I jsut have a bad habit of taking things personally. I think what if I messed up? what if they think I'm no good etc etc blah blah...lol I will hunt around the messages to see if anything has happened to the coordinator. I did enjoy it, it was theraputic in a way.

Heather

Heather Report 26 Jun 2006 22:36

Lesley, you could always mail them and say you thought it would be best to be in same time zone. That is really awful about not hearing back. Definitely mail them again - you should have been contacted even if you made mistakes, every one has to learn. I should imagine the co ordinator is ill or has had a puter crash.

* Loopy Lesley Report 26 Jun 2006 22:40

Thanxs Heather I think I will do that :~) Hope he's not offended. Or do you think I should be a Little more patient lol Does .net.nz mean they in New zealand then? Lesley :~)

Ive just had a look at messages in the mailing list and it seems someone else is also trying to get in touch with the coordinator. Then another message from the same person asking everyone in the syndicate to get in touch with him. I have sent an email, maybe get a reply soon I hope.
