Oh well done Athena - I stayed up til my eyes were closing last night and whipped on here as soon as Old Man had gone to work And well done Carol in Dulwich for bringing this story up in the first place and then tying all the snippets together. A real Agatha Christie job. FANTABULOUS. . WOO HOO - Isnt that lovely and he still has a wife, which is brilliant. I bet they spent hours and hours talking about your call afterwards and all the neighbours will be told - isnt it great. AND arent you great doing it - I would have made a complete cock up, stuttered and dithered and probably upset them if Id phoned. FANTASTIC - well done everyone and Im SO pleased it worked out - I bet that old chap will talk about this for years now. I bet the photo albums are on the table at this very moment! WELL DONE!!!!

Well done Athena + Carol, - and everyone who helped - It is truly amazing what can be achieved by people on this board ! So glad that some joy came from this. Heinz has obviously got on with his life after her death and although he does not feel the need to have the items sent, he was obviously touched by the fact that so many people care. Best wishes to all. Dea x

Hi everyone, so glad for the happy ending. If no living relatives of Herta can be found, wouldnt her things be better going to a Jewish Museum/Archive than staying with Lambeth? They dont really seem all that interested do they. Regards Sylvia.

I'm really pleased you made that phone call Athena. Well done, it must have taken some courage. I'm relieved to know that Heinz was able to listen with interest since he knew what had become of Herta. What a lovely ending - to that part of the story anyway. So what happens now? How far do we GR folk go in trying to find any living rellie of Herta.....after all, it would be their right to have that suitcase full of her belongings wouldn't it?? Karen

Well that's just about the best outcome there could have been!!! Gosh he sounds like a lovely gentleman and I'll bet he's also pleased to know that Herta's been thought of after all these years. Hopefully now these papers will be displayed and she can be remembered in some small way across future years. Great outcome - well done!! (sniff sniff) Snowdrops

Well done for making that call - kind of a happy ending then in a way, cos Henry/Heinz is still alive, alert and happy by the sound of things, with an understanding family, and with all his marbles too, bless him. I am glad that he knew of Herta's death and hadn't been fretting over things, and that he was still comfortable with what had happened to discuss this with you. R.I.P. Herta, one day you will meet your old friend again. Liz

I have been reading this from the start with interest. I think it is amazing that he has been found. Well done everyone. So pleased he knew what had happened to Herta & seems he had told his wife as well. Happy ending, that's what we all like. Hilary.

Back from Work. Glad it all turned out so well. Wish I could have someone discover my nans old letters and try and track me down. Unfortunatly it's only been in recent years that people would think of doing this. Years ago if someone found them they would be just thrown away. Gypsyjoe

Thank you for ringing anf letting us know what happened. I am so glad that Heinz knew what had happened to Herta and that he was happy to have heard from you. It sounds like he tried to tell you very gently that she had died, which is funny as we were all worried that he would be distressed by the call. I'm glad that he seems happy and hopefully he has had a happy life since. Toni
