Kodak - Harrow

I have found that my ancestors have quite a history with Kodak in Harrow. I went there today and they said that they throw out all employee records after 30 years. I have missed my Grandad's by 3 years. The personnel officer there said that none were ever archived. I think this is such a crying shame. Kodak was the largest employer for a hundred years in the Harrow area. What alot of social history is lost now! Do other companies act this way or can some records be given to archives like the National Archives. Does anyone know what their criteria is - I appreciate they could not store all employee records but such a huge one surtey??? Any thoughts? Kate
