I am related to Alice HANKS born 1836, my Gt Gt Grandmother. Was wondering if there is a connec tion to Tom Hanks, who's family came from England c. 200 years ago.

Thanks for all your replies. I didn't see them all last night, so I will have a proper read through later today to try to get my head around the different possibilities!

Two unrelated couples with the same full names, long odds? If they'rw reasonably rare names, maybe. But when you get to all my Joneses and Evanses...

Jaqui look at my thread above this one about children getting married

Montmorency

Montmorency Report 20 May 2006 23:15

there's also a James bapt 1821, so the 1820 marriage date looks good. Could be there was only one Martha, who married a James and then another James, maybe a cousin or nephew of the first James. In that case, the birth cert ought to say Martha Hanks late Hanks formerly Tweed, but maybe not Two unrelated couples with the same full names would be very long odds

Jacqui, so how do you no that (James Hanks b.1811 in London) with no birth details? or that the 1820 marriage is yours? Roy

Jacqui

Jacqui Report 20 May 2006 20:42

I haven't found the birth details on IGI I'm afraid. They had 4 children in 1837, 1838, 1840 and 1843. I have the birth certificate for the 1840 birth.

Porkie_Pie

Porkie_Pie Report 20 May 2006 20:39

Jacqui, is their a batch number on both the birth and marriage details? Roy

Jacqui

Jacqui Report 20 May 2006 20:35

Thanks for replying Roy. Yes there is a batch number...

Porkie_Pie

Porkie_Pie Report 20 May 2006 20:34

you need to check if their is a batch/file number? or if it is a submited entry as lots of submited entries are not accurate and should be taken with a pinch of salt. Roy

Jacqui

Jacqui Report 20 May 2006 20:28

I have an ancester James Hanks b.1811 in London who married Martha Tweed b.1801 in London. On the IGI there is a marriage for people of these names in St Anne Soho, Westminster, London in 1820. This would make James age 9! They didn't have their first child until 1837 so this also makes it unlikely to be the right date. My question is whether you think it is more likely to be a typo on the IGI or whether there could have possibly been another James Hanks marrying a Martha Tweed in London?
