I expect he is too busy looking through all his resources in order to help others Merry.

Merry Report 7 Jul 2006 11:51

But Ed isn't speaking to us, Ann!!!! He only returns occasionally, and then only ''scans a handful of replies'' in order to make a revised (or in this case, non-revised) assessment of how we are doing! Merry

Oh Ed.....see what youv'e done now! There are many of us on here that couldn't have started our family tree with out help from others on this site. The Tips Board is a mine of useful information for us all to share. So I don't give a toss either when the threads 'digress'. It's all good fun and comes at NO EXTRA CHARGE either. Still, I must be a sad git too for reading all these messages .....but sometimes that's what we all need... a bit of humour...so lighten up!

Well, (comma!) I think we are all familiar with Ed's research lines now and will keep well clear of any similar look up requests in future - no matter what the member's (apostrophe!) name may be. RIP

Janet

Janet Report 6 Jul 2006 18:36

Ed Could you please rewrite the sentences at the beginning of your thread, putting all your apostrophies in the correct places, and leaving out the commas where there should not be any commas. It might then be more legible. I do think that everybody on this Tips Board works very hard for their fellow genealogists. You request information on all sorts of issues and people give up a lot of their time, energy and expertise to obtaining information for you for free. Don't knock it. (Note the place of the apostrophe in DON'T!!) If I had written don,t that wouuld have been called a comma and would have been incorrect! Janet

Glen In Tinsel Knickers Report 6 Jul 2006 18:17

A lot of the original point in the topic header has been changed. You only have to read the first reply to see that a large part refers to something that is now missing. Presumably the renewal went through anyhow despite the reservations that Ed had. Glen

I think that when Ed sees the number of responses to this thread and the strength of peoples feelings, he will realise that he has just shot himself in the foot!!! Cant imagine too many people putting themselves out to help with his next dilemma!! Fuzzy x

CanadianCousin Report 6 Jul 2006 18:01

Well ... the only problem I have with off-topic threads or comic diversions is that I spend far too much time reading them. :-) It's like going to a buffet where they have so many different salads and desserts that I can't decide which I want (and don't have enough room to try them all). This is what I would call a good problem to have. Tim

Just one last comment - I bet if Ed comes back on to tips he'd be well advised to change his name. See Snowdrops' 'tip of the day' Ed Sarah :-) NB Ed's tree created 20/08/2004 at 12.54

Merry Report 6 Jul 2006 15:04

Of course, Mark.......if only Ed hadn't nudged it, it would be down on page (three digits) by now!! Ed says he hasn't read it all and wouldn't have read any of it, had a friend had not allerted him to our replies. In the original version of the original post (it's been changed) - Ed did say he would not be replying to this thread. It has taken 2½ months for him to come back, yet he still says the board is not as he likes it........but presumably he hasn't been looking at it in between?? Merry

Excuse me for butting in, but isn't the fact that everybody (including myself) is commenting on this the only thing stopping the ''proper' Tips postings' from pushing it off the bottom of the page?

Elaine

Elaine Report 6 Jul 2006 15:00

I have sat and watched the replies being added to this thread, and must say I agree with what people are saying. I find your comments somewhat upsetting, having helped you many times in the past. If you glance down the first page on the Tips at the moment there are only 3 postings which could be classed as 'not asking or giving genealogical advice' - your thread being one of them. I would suggest that you tread very carefully when you ask for help in the future.

Heather

Heather Report 6 Jul 2006 14:58

Jess, no private messaging - Ed has just added an update to his original posting - apparently an erm, friend emailed him about his thread's replies, even though it must have been on about page 120.

Merry

Merry Report 6 Jul 2006 14:55

Ed. It is rather rude of you to say you have ''scanned a handful of the replies'' when there were over 90 reponses at the time you chose to tell us your views had not changed. Not a lot of point in anyone posting. Maybe you should delete this thread now? (Jess, I have posted everything I have thought!) Merry

Do i sense some private messages flying back and forth here? Shame, its best that everyone can read what is being said in situations like this Jess

Heather

Heather Report 6 Jul 2006 14:34

I guess you also lost your way Ed if its taken you this long to notice the thread that you originated. No one complained when you requested the same info over and over - still they went to every effort to help you. To be honest I think you have a bit of a nerve to even start this thread. Now, Im getting back to the business of helping other on here - you should try it some time.

I totally agree with Urban Girl. Okay, so sometimes the odd thread does 'digress' a little, but that's the beauty of dealing with human beings.

Merry

Merry Report 6 Jul 2006 14:25

Ed. You are not my boss and I am not your employee. If you don't like this board then don't read it. You cannot tell a bunch of individuals they are collectively ''losing their way''. Maybe you should do some lookups (for others)? We don't see you for weeks and then you say your views have not changed. Well I'm sorry if we are not keeping up to your high standards. If you want something to change, you have to put some effort in yourself. That is the art of good ''management''. Alternatively, if you want to upset the ''staff'' you should pop your head round the office door, tell them they are ''losing their way'' and then go back to your executive suite. What is the point of this thread? Merry
