I've reached a total brick wall with this side of the family. Details I have so far:- William Baugh born c1859 married Annie Elizabeth Haywood born c1859 on 3rd October 1881 (have marriage certificate). On certificate it states William's dad as Briah Baugh, Miner but I can't find any trace of him at all!! They were living in Heath End, Rushall, Staffs when they got married. I've been looking at this on and off for nearly a year now and still haven't got anywhere so your thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated. Jayne x

It's a nuisance that it doesn't give WHERE in Staffs he was born, but I will see if I can find the family further back if you think this looks possible. nell

Hi JIm/Helen, Anythings a possibility Helen! I have no siblings for him so I can't even guess if it is or not. It doesn't say deceased on the marriage cert though at the side of his name. Jane If you have a census entry in which William says he is born Shrops, then I doubt if the one I have in which he says born Staffs is the same chap. nell

Street given as Dark Lane Strange, he seems to be living with the SHEPHERD family in 1871 and 1881. I would guess that if he had been living with the same family since he was small he may not have known his dad's name and gave brian as a name.

Sorry Nell, I've just checked the census records I have. William was born in Shropshire, his wife and kids were born in Staffs and he married in Staffs. Sorry to waste your time. Jayne x

Jayne a death cert will have a name of who was present at the death.... hopfully it will be a rellie. also occupation of deceased. Sometimes in the occupation box it will say...husband of.... good luck

I hadn't picked up on the fact it was the same family he was living with - the 'head' is different on the 1871 I hadn't checked the other names! Maybe his parents died or gave him up. God this is so frustrating! I can't even find a birth for him, Jayne x

But v. odd that William doesn't appear to be with them. I think this is the same lot as they also have Isiah/Isaiah, which is the least common name amongst the children. nell

Do you think Alma on the 1871 census and Ann on the other 2 could be the same person just written down wrong on the 1871? I know William owned his own mine for a while but I've not been able to find much out about it. If this is them, why wasn't he brought up with them and why can't I find his birth? Jayne x
