Jess, need a super sleuth on this one. Want to find William Castledine Wyles alive in the1861 otherwise he probably wouldnt have received a pension from Post Office (regulations from 1859) and so no point in me going to their archives. Scarily Ive found a possible death in 1858 (bloody sods law) but I cant find any of the family in the 1861 so am hoping this is just someone with same name. This is the family 1851: 1851: Catherine Wyles abt 1812 Lambeth, Surrey, England Wife Bethnal Green Middlesex Catherine Wyles abt 1849 Bethnal Green, Middlesex, England Daughter Bethnal Green Middlesex Louisa Wyles abt 1844 Hackney Road, Middlesex, England Daughter Bethnal Green Middlesex Mary Ann Wyles abt 1839 St George East, Middlesex, England Daughter Bethnal Green Middlesex William Wyles abt 1802 Burgh le Marsh, Lincolnshire, England Head Bethnal Green Middlesex In 1871 Mum Catherine (widowed) and youngest daughter Catherine are living together in Brixton. If you can find them 1861 be very grateful.

Hi Jess Thanks for the offer of census lookups, if you get a chance, please could you look on either the 1851 or 1861 census for WILLIAM ROSE(chr 1850) and JOHN ROSE(ch 1846) both christened in Stoke Next Guildford in Surrey. Their mother is Ann, I'm interested to know if a father is living with them. I'd be very grateful....thanks.

Thanks Jess, I had seen that one before (a long time back to be honest) but thought as dob, pob is out .......but then she seems to get younger by a few years at will. Mind you, Louisa could have become Laura couldnt she. Fund Holder, maybe has a pension then? Many thanks for trying Jess. I think I will trawl for more deaths of this guy. You think he would have had the decency to hang on a few months til after 1859.

Hi Jess Bum! Sorry, don't even know if Rose is Ann's married name or not. Showing my ignorance of the info on the early census, had hoped that the children could be pinpointed through dob and place of birth. If it helps any, fathers name could be John. If not, thanks so much for checking for me.

Heather Report 8 Feb 2006 15:40

Jess, just looked at that one in Mile End and the image shows the daughters name as Louisa, not Laura as transcription. You know what, I am sure this is them. Thanks for the kick up the butt. Dont know where the Westminster birth place comes from, maybe the transcribers eye wandered back then - as it should be Lambeth or Southwark. But the kids ages and names pretty well clinch it. Hopefully 'Fundholder' does mean she was given some money from the Post Office.

its not a problem blue, its just with the uncertainty with the birth places and such a common name it's not looking good. can only find a birth of a Ruth Emily 1891in sudbury, which is obviously incorrect
