Would just like to mention to you and BEV, have at last found my Albert Victor Ward who I think was one of the first people I ever asked for help on, he was in the Northampton regiment and was in India and South Africa, so missing on 1891 and 1901 census Thanks Elaine

Mike your help would be very much appreciated. I am looking at the Burbidge family. I have found Clara Burbidge as a widow age 28 on the 1881 census living at no 4 Court Northgate Street All Saints District 52 with her four children. I know that her husband Walter died in Sept quarter 1879. Fine. On the 1891 census she is now Bradshaw and is living at 3 Emerald Street, St Leonard District 43 She has remarried has her original four children with her and now two new ones but no husband is listed on the census night. I have looked the marriage up and she married John Bradshaw Sept quarter 1886 7a page 282. On the 1901 census she is again a widow. I cannot find a death for John Bradshaw or where he was on census night or any other information for him. Help or suggestions please. Thanks JoJo

Hi Jo Jo What was his occupation, might give us a clue and could he have joined the army? Elaine

Jo Jo Report 12 Feb 2006 17:24

Sorry Elaine, I do not have any other information. I have taken this from the census and he is not on it the night it was taken in 1891and cannot see him anywhere else in Leicester. As I do not know his age is impossible to look for. I will have to send for the marriage cert to see if that gives anything useful. JoJo

Mike - Elaine sorry I should have typed Edwin not Walter as the first husband of Clara. Walter was their third child. I have Edwin as 1880 September quarter Vol 7a 177 age approx 27. I have looked on the Boer was site but could find nothing for a John Bradshaw. I will go back and have another look in case I missed anything. Thanks JoJo

Mike thanks. Reading two lines of writing and type part of one and part of the second, no excuse early senility????? LOL I was going to add that Clara and John Bradshaw children were called Rowland and Louisa on the census for 1891. I can only find a Thomas Rowland born Dec q 1886 & Louisa born June q 1888. I went for a walk around Welford Road cemetery last summer and identified three graves of relatives all with markers luckily, the rest could only look in the general area as no markers anywhere. Although reading markers that are laying down and covered in grass cuttings is not easy. JoJo

Mike in your marriage records do you have a marriage for Walter Burbidge and Sarah Hunt. They married in Sept quarter 1900. In the 1891 census Walter lived in Emerald Street district of St Leonards and in 1901 they both lived At Simpson Street St Margarets. I am looking for the fathers name for Sarah as Walters father should be Edwin. Thanks JoJo.
