Irish Ancestry

What's the best way to research Irish ancestry? I've traced back to ggGrandfather who I think was born in in 1860 - but I don't know where to continue research. He was married and had his family in the UK so they proved relatively easy to track down but now I'm stuck. Can anyone help please?
