I have been looking for John Guerin on the 1861 census when he would have been 14ish. I have found his parents and sister in army barracks in Newcastlr -u - Lyme. I have now found a 'John Guerin' aboard an English navy ship but it says age 16 born Canada. My John was definately not born in Canada but I wondered if he may have run away to join the navy and lied about his age and birthplace ( how possible is it for a 16 year old from Canada to be in the navy in England?) Could anyone check if a John Guerin was born in Canada about 1845. Hope someone can help. Sue |
